Lower back pain

Hi people,

I am experiencing lower back pain which I think could be caused by my naturally over extended pelvis (backwards) and/ or an emotional blockage (not sure what though). I suffer from neck pain from time to time but back pain is unusual for me.

I know which basic postures relieve/ release the lower back but I am after any additional tips that you guys might have, including perhaps breathing work/ meditation etc.

I?ve had massages, using Birch oil for the pain, and practising very gentle yoga but alas no relief.

Thank you!

i guess all the experienced yogis know that as a potential issue and probably have paid attention with proper tailbone positioning ?

i start to get lower back pain about 6 months after beginning my yoga practice and it took me a while before i realized that the “scoop your tailbone” instruction should be taken seriously!

and only recently i got corrected by my teacher when i was practicing jump backs to Chaturanga, i forgot to tuck my belly in. She demonstrated and showed how much weight i was pumping into my lower back when i landed my feet down with my pelvis tilted up.

my lower back pain has pretty much disappeared since then…

I agree with the scoop of the tailbone. I had lower back pain for a while and fixed it with yoga. I’ve been teaching yoga for 10 years and have helped 1,000’s of students with back issues throughout my years.
Also, stretching your hamstrings, while laying on your back in supine postion & stretching your hip flexors with kneeling lunges will also help.
Good luck and better health.

Perhaps try this product? It is called BackMagic, is inexpensive and one needs to lie on it for 5 minutes twice a day to help ease back pain. In yoga class in supine position we place blocks underneath various position of the back, because of the square shape of blocks it does not fully support and thus relax the lower back muscles, this product does the job nicely. Also read the good reviews from buyers at Amazon.com. Good luck in finding a relief. Namaste
