A Sikh viewpoint of Yoga
Surely we have to consider that all people practicing all faiths will make errors, sometimes huge ones....and, many people practice their faith with little conviction, just doing it because of family and/or cultural practice/traditions, pressures.... So we have to factor these types of people into all questions of behaviors within their faiths.

When the faith has it written to be violent, kill, torture undermined, etc ..then there is something wrong with the core of that religion.......but....when the above goes against what the religion expresses, then it is the fault of the individual
I see here, in an Indian newspaper (Times of India) that in North India honour killings are "a war against love."

Sad, very sad and an example of shamefully terrible misguided beliefs.!!What can one say.

I am concerned about the nature of some of the posts, regardless of which side of the issue the poster takes. A in-depth study of different cultures shows that we all have adopted from others, and in fact, have adopted some religious practices from others. Christmas, for instance, is now widely observed in the world as a time for gift-giving and celebration regardless of adherence to the teachings of Christ as the Savior. In the Bible we are taught not to judge the good works of others even though they are not believers. Isn’t yoga the same? If the practice, however we understand it, emulates what some of you insist is Hindu in origin and nature, aren’t you happy for those who benefit from it? I believe the practice of non-stealing is an important aspect of our serenity, and to claim that yoga was stolen from the Hindus is to imply malice. I study yoga frequently at a Hindu ashram, where the yoga students eat with and visit with the devotees. In our discussions, the devotees (those who live at the ashram) never insist they are “right” about something nor do they resent those from other faiths learning yoga. The meditations and chants can be Christian or Jewish, or other religions in nature, as long as they are not at odds with the Yamas and Niyamas. When I registered at Yoga Forums I expected welcoming, not arm-wrestling.
