Meditation seems to be about trial and error, testing skillful techniques and comprehensive methodologies, particularly ones that have historically assisted other human beings but eventually all means must be let go, even the feeling of letting go must pass etc. etc., one finally realizes that taking credit or ownership for spontaneous occurrences is illusive thinking of the limited mind whereas meditation arises from beyond the mind.
Meditation is path path but not an objective ! As like any other path, Mahayoga is definetly a path and hence credit of path or any realization arising from churning Or cleansing of SAMSKARAS will go away when objective is met.Till the time, discrimination about paths and physical measurements will happen in whichever path an aspirant follows; Mahayoga is not an exception.
One may choose Bicycle, rail route, car Or may be happily walking till he/she knows about Arial route where no volunteer efforts are required by aspirant.
I hope, even by using discrimination Or logical tests one will agree that arial route is quicker than other means.
All paths are meant for union with real self , none of them are unreal.Wise one would test, apply logical means in order to accept/reject before conclusion.
Gracefully Siddha Mahayoga encompasses all yoga paths ( including Rajyoga,Kriyayoga, HathYoga, Mantra and Layyoga as well as Naadyoga). If ,aspirant just becomes observer then who and how one can credit for the automatic kriyas which are very similar to automatic breathing taking place in every human being?
a couple of mins surrender to his/her own Pran Shakti i.e. Life force will answer will questions.

Jayant

Hi Jayant, you are communicating with one person here; first name Ray, last name Killeen, I?m the one with the lesser hair, call me Ray it is easier.

How?s that all working out for you?
Dear Ray,
Sorry for the name confusion :).
But,Let the smile on your face be unending and expanding exponentially breath by breath by his grace.
The omnipresent and onmiscient SELF called as Atman Or simply Pran is inherently present in every breathing creature. So logically speaking, self is full of bliss and unending happiness is real nature of all human beings. With Master’s grace it’s very much possible to get connected with our own self which is common in all human being and once realised it becomes self of ALL.
To answer “How” part of your question in words is merely difficult because the SELF is devoid of thoughts ,senses and mind. It can only be experienced.
Like all others, I had same questions like “HOW, By WHOM, Where and How much” at some point in time. But, slowly slowly all doubts and thoughts start diminishing. Amazingly, the samskaras are burnt at astral and psychic level, few of them take form of involunteer actions Or Kriyas which aspirant perceives by senses. While huge part of cleansing is done by Mother energy at astral level .As cleansing progresses, kriyas also dimish to bring up the equipoise or SAMADHI state in aspirant.Aspirant itself becomes pure blissful ENERGY.
Mother energy is so kind with all her childern that, she guides and nourishes aspirant like a child. In the whole journey aspirant is at rest in her palms like a baby in stroller. No worries of anything going right Or wrong.
Even though logical discrimination Or reasoning sense is present in initial stage, that is bound to disappear permanently when aspirant experiences her love which is indefinite. Also, intelligence of mother energy is such vast that, so called human reasoning , logical or mental sense is a tiny drop in her ocean of intelligence.
What a beauty of creator that aspirant just becomes mute observer in whole journey.
To shortly answer HOW:
Surrender to your own self ( automatic breathing) Or Guru Or Pran Shakti Or Life Force Or Spirit; they are names of the same thing.
It is observed that this initial practice for 3 to 18 min a day prepares aspirant and raises curiosity for Siddha Mahayoga initiation.
At proper time Mother Energy Or Guru will find you !!
In his shelter,
Jayant

Yes ,one may come across helpful guidance but please be vigilant when participating in spiritual side shows and the dangling carrots of so called gurus. ?The greatest Guru is your inner self. Truly, he is the supreme teacher. He alone can take you to your goal and he alone meets you at the end of the road. Confide in him and you need no outer Guru. But again you must have the strong desire to find him and do nothing that will create obstacles and delays.? ~Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
To come into union with that which has never been separate is a spontaneous happening.
Ray :
Great reverence and pleasure to know that you are on path of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
“To come into union with that which has never been separate is a spontaneous happening.”
Those highlighted words are foundation of Siddha Mahayoga !!

Happenings are immaculate inevitabilities, including refusal to go along with it, there is no possible way to make a mistake, nothing is happening on a personal level when there is no control to be had. This moment is it.

“Atma-samstham, manah-kritva; na kinchid-api-chintayet” is what Chapter XI, of the Bhagavad Gita reveals about meditation.
Prana and Atman, being two sides of the same coin, we would do ourselves a favour, if our mind is taught to devotedly engage with Prana, since it is this very Prana that is experienced as our breathing.
Prana Shakti, represented by the AIR that we ALL breathe, is thus the Universal Mother, as She sustains all living creatures. With this inner attitude, please, please do try out these simple steps:
[ol]
[li]Sit in any comfortable position and calmly close the eyes.
[/li][li]Relax the body to the maximum, as if body is not there.
[/li][li]Allow AUTOMATIC breathing to take place, i.e. let Prana do the breathing.
[/li][li]Feel the Mother Air going in and out of the body. Offer full liberty to the breathing process. PLEASE… DO NOT DO ANYTHING YOURSELF. Even allow any spontaneous actions take place. This is the essence of this Mahayoga Introductory Practice.
[/li][li]Be one with Mother Air for as long as She wants you to be.
[/li][/ol]
This way, rather than meditation being a doing process, it transforms into a happening process.
Good work is going on here. Me like.
Gita speaks about meditation in a different way, meditation as per Gita is focusing one’s attention on surrendering the ego and attachment to ones actions and doing the duty as service to the god. This surrender is only possible when a person has reached the first stage of knowledge: Viveka, the understanding of real and unreal.
Great are those who realise this fact. Many salutations to those who can realise real and unreal by the wisdom of knowledge - conscience “Vivek”
The Bhagavad Gita recognizes that meditation is possible only for those, who have diluted their raga dvesha (likes and dislikes) through worldly activity. It therefore prescribes two paths (Chapter 3.3) -one for those (the majority I suppose (
) who have a lot of strong likes and dislikes and one for those who have worked on them and managed to overcome them:-
लोकेऽस्मिन्द्विविधा निष्टा पुरा प्रोक्ता मयानघ ।
ज्ञानयोगेन साड़्ख्यानां कर्मयोगेन योगिनाम् ॥
( BG 3.3)
Asmin ?In this; Loke- world; dvividha-of two kinds; nishta- path or way.Pura ?at the beginning ; Prokta ?said, told; maya ?by me; anagha ?sinless one; Jnana-yogena -Yoga in the form of Knowledge; sankhyanam- for the followers of Sankhya-used as a synonym for Sanyasa; karmayogena-Yoga in the form of actions; Yoginam-for those who undertake activity.
In this world, two paths were laid down by me in the beginning, O sinless One, The Path of knowledge for the sanyasins, and the Path of action for those who undertake activity.
The Lord says that he has laid down two paths for liberation. One is meant for the Sanyasins- those who lead a life of renunciation and spend all their times in the study of the scriptures. A Sanyasi renounces all relationships and all Karma (activity/duties). His only remaining Karma is the pursuit of knowledge for the achievement of Moksha. As such, he is required to follow the path of Knowledge and has no other duty to perform. Sanyasa is possible only if one?s likes and dislikes, raga dvesha have thinned out. If this has not happened and the raga dvesha is strong in a person, he will be miserable after taking Sanyasa and his renunciation will fail in its objectives. But if you have lived a life as a Karma Yogi either in this life or in several previous lives, and have to a large extent diluted your raga dvesha , then the life of study and contemplation ,that is Sanyasa, is for you. And for such a person the Lord has recommended the path of Knowledge for Moksha.
A Karma Yogi , on the other hand, has the world to work in where his raga dveshas can be overcome. The karma Yogi also pursues knowledge for without that there is no Moksha. So while the Jnana Yogi pursues only the path of knowledge, the Karma Yogi pursues knowledge and action. The Karma Yogi pursues action with a very specific attitude ? that of not being concerned with the fruits of the action. Thus each action is performed in a spirit of sacrifice-yagna. The reason for Karma Yoga therefore is purification of the mind. Deprived of its attachment to fruits of action, the mind loses its impurities over a period of time and the Karma Yogi then moves into the Jnana Yoga phase.
Thus the two paths are not two distinct paths, rather the patch of Karma Yoga morphs into the path of Knowledge at the stage where the raga dveshas are removed.

Tattwa Bodha - an introductory text to Vedanta defines Viveka as under:-
““nityavastvekaM brahma tadhvyatiriktaM sarvamanityam
ayameva nityaanityavastuviveka””
Nitya Vastu Ekam?Brahman
Tad Vyatiriktam…(Except that)
Sarvam Anityam
Ayam Eva ?. Only this
Nitya Anitya Vastu Vivekam
That which is real, eternal (not bound by time) is only one and that is Brahman (God, Universal Consciousness, The father who is in heaven -many names exist);
Except that all else is limited by time ie subject to destruction ie unreal;
Knowing this as the difference between the Eternal and Non Eternal ie the real and the unreal is Viveka.
This is right and for that you need to do meditation daily.
I had learn my meditation sessions from
http://kundaliniyogameditation.ca/ or http://siddhyog.or/
I wanna be dude at that time and after practicing meditation i am not dude
Jayantsande25 , thank you !
In your words there is a direct answer to my questions . I opened a thread where i shared my spontaneous meditation experience but no one gave me an answer . I had to figure out what happened just by my self and Mahayoga concept as how you describe it perfectly confirm and color my theories . Now i can experience both ways to connect with Prana : surrender and regulated nostril breathing . Of course through pranayama i am loosing it all the time because i am a beginner and my rhythm is very poor . Through surrender i can have easy solid 5-10 min prana swim (not sure if i can call this samadhi and which word is most proper ) .
Anyway very nice thread . Some essential information is given here and for the real seeker a lot of questions of arising .
This is so much to soak in all at once. I can only dream of having this much wisdom and insight. Baby steps i suppose. This was an absolutely calming read.
This turned out to be a very interesting read. And the comments also carried a lot of information!
Thank you!
It's important not only to learn how to do meditation, but also to continue doing it regularly. As Malcolm Gladwell puts it, meditation is the most effective way to improve your ability to concentrate.
The main reason we need daily meditation is that our thoughts and emotions are constantly coming to us like a stream of consciousness, and sometimes we get very stressed or distressed by them. We need to learn to recognize these thoughts and emotions as they come up, and then we can learn to let them go.
Meditation is a tool for dealing with thoughts and emotions so that they don't lead us into suffering. But if we don't learn to recognize them as they come up, we won't be able to learn this skill.
