Hi Awwware and welcome to the forum!
I read this “Emperors new mind” long time ago. Fascinating book. But after some time I dropped this subject (of explaining self-consciousness using science). I guess I was more fascinated with possibilities of exploring those concepts myself, with my whole being rather than trying to explain them with physical concepts. If you are in this subject, keep us posted on developments in this area!
Hi Pawel, Thanks for your reply. I have also found the direct inquiry into the nature of consciousness via meditation more rewarding than the cumbersome scientific digging. Nevertheless, it must be the jnana-yogi in me, I have a thirst to know what the physical and scientific counterpart of those experiences is. The stunning progress in neuroscience will bring these two together within 10 years from now. All that can be experienced can also be explained (I hope). Will keep you posted.
I did not read any of those links, but I am a lay student of Quantum Mechanics and this also ties in very nicely to my own personal spiritual quest.
When scientists finally figure out ToE (The Theory of Everything) or the Grand Unified Theory (GUT), they will become self-realised (of course, they will also need to drop their scientific minds in order to realise it)
In Sanskrit, an atom is called ‘anu’ and the rishis of the past also knew about sub-atomic particles and their behaviour. Sometimes, I read the Vedas like an advanced textbook of quantum mechanics.
So, what actually holds matter all together? what is in that ‘space’ between atomic nuclei and their encircling electrons? ether…nothing…God?
We can see from this that all matter is just an illusion. It’s the speed of light that gives matter the appearance of being solid.
Isn’t that what they also said 5000 years ago? lol
If one looks into the behaviour of sub atomic particles, they gain an insight into the true nature of the soul and the Divine Consciousness that created it.
Science can not explain God, but they are coming freaking close to it.

I have read ‘The Emperor’s New Mind’ by Roger Penrose IIRC and another book by Darryl Reanney (forget the title) and umpteen books by Stephen Hawking et al.

Yep, posted another thread on this very last point of you: science coming close to understand God: The tetrahedron of jnana.
some other quantum thoughts: when we feel united with god, we experience the wave character of our soul as the universe is one big wave function. when we feel isolated the particle nature…
the glue that hold matter together: should gluons be renamed angelons and theons?
