TTC in US versus India

If you want to study in India then I would recommend the Brahmani courses…I think they have a vinyasa flow course also.
I know most of their teachers and many people who have done that course…I would seriously consider employing teachers who have a good reference from Brahmani.
Goa is also “easy India”…
Hi, This is my first post to yoga forums. I apologize if this has been asked before, but my searching didn’t turn up a lot.

I’ve recently done a 200 hour TTC in India, and while I did gain insights from it, it’s not enough to teach with. So I’m looking into 500 hour TTCs to start with. I have gotten the impression that courses in India are heavy on philosophy, as my previous training was, and not so much on the technical side of asanas. A foundation in philosophy is important to me, but if I’m going to teach in the US, I need to know more about anatomy, asana sequencing, injuries, and general classroom nitty gritty. (Most studio-goers in the US don’t come for info on Patanjali’s sutras.)

So here’s the question: In your experiences, is there much difference between a TTC in the US and in India? I love the ambience of training in India, but I also want practical classroom training. I hope I’ve been clear enough.

Thank you!! (And please don’t mind me if post a few more common Qs on teacher training. :))
Worth mentioning that training in India originally consisted of complete immersion in Yoga for many years. A Yogi would study under the guidance of a guru in an ashram for a decade or more, before passing on knowledge to others.

The modern 200Hr course in India is largely an imitation of courses in the US. Yoga Alliance India is based upon Yoga Alliance USA. So if it’s 200 or 500Hr courses you’re after, then the US or other ‘western’ country might be best for this. Though I would advise any aspiring practitioner to spend as much time as possible fully immersed in the practice, before attempting to pass on the knowledge to others.

Look for the link between the philosophy and asana.

I

Thanks Terence … its true about the 200hrs or 500hrs courses.

But there are places in India like Tulasidalam where yoga courses are done like step by step manner from human physiology to the highest philosophy as a life time program. The practice of awareness in the physiology levels guided to state of ‘vairagya’. Pay only one time for the yoga guidance, for your whole life. From physiology to philosophy… from darkness to light.
Dear Prascina

I wasted a few mins of my precious time in reading your posts. You’ve done your ttc from a particular institute and in 90% of your posts you are promoting this institute ever since it came into existence or ever since you joined this forum. Even if thread is about great institutions like Sivananda, you chip in and start discussing and praising about your cheap alma matar.

Had you completed your ttc from a good institute, you could have been a good yoga teacher by now. And instead of doing this silly stuff, you could’ve been teaching your own class or promoting your own yoga school.

I’m sure you understand what I mean. And hoping that in coming days, you’ll change your pseudo name and start posting on this forum with a new name.

Thank you.
Sorry whoever you are… name is Prascina. That’s the reason why I do not need a pseudo name(like you have :D) and I have no intention of trying out a new name cause I am so comfortable with the name I have. And I am quite proud to say that I have done my TTC from Tulasidalam. And I am wondering why you are so eager to promote or de-promote an institution. Like you have mentioned Sivananda is an institution, do not forget that also was started by somebody at sometime and as time goes on it doesn’t mean other masters like Sivananda or Vishnudevananda shouldn’t be coming, and other schools or ashrams shouldn’t be formed. I do appreciate my master or I wouldn’t be praising her, and am not hesitant to do so, cause guru shows the path of God to Peace. And why do you assume that I may not have an other TTC from an other institution? Know this that I am doing what you feel I am doing out of the best of the comparisons :D, cause I am sure that whoever have attended their Yoga classes earnestly with Sinduma feel it was worth. If you haven’t yet found your Peace in yoga, I am recommending you my friend you should go and visit my "cheap alma matar"and clarify your comment, if you have the courage  for real yoga practice.
