Yoga nidra

If you have a hard time getting to sleep at night, incorporating yoga into your life can help, especially, if your insomnia is stress-related. Before going to bed, you can do a few gentle stretches to relieve tension and help you relax. Three-part breath is very helpful for clearing the mind of the day’s clutter. Use this simple exercise to prepare your body for sleep.

In our waking consciousness we are living on a loan.

Our lower bodies, (physical and vital - look up the appropriate koshas -) are result and maintained by the harmonies, power and wisdom of spiritual worlds.
This loan we recieve every time we sleep. What happens, is that our manomaya kosha, due to the effect of our waking life destroys, unbalances, deharmonizes the lower sheets or bodies.

Because, we human beings lack the wisdom and power to make up for the effects of our sensorial worldly lives on our lower bodies, when we enter sleep, a separation happens. The self and the mental body (manomaya kosha) enters the lower astral world, while higher powers take care of our exhausted, fatiqued lower sheets. Indeed if one is sleep deprived, that can lead even to death. This fact is mostly disregarded in our materialist world, yet it is still true. We take so many things for granted. We feel in control, while in reality, if we are honest, there is little in our lives we can really control. Yoga is about control, its the yoke on the necks of the horses of the senses.

The more developed, harmonic and spiritualized the mental body is the less need there is for sleep. In this context, we can see how a man absorbed into creative thinking activity, sacrificing personal life for science, like Isaac Newton, needs much less sleep than the average man, who is chaotically divided among so many things. Anything what orders our mental activity during our waking consciousness, will have a positive effect on our whole organism, and may reduce the repair time in the heavenly places.

The reason while we are unconscious during sleeping is that our manomaya kosha did not develop the necessary organs through with we can have experience of the places we visit during the night. These organs are no other but those centers called chakras. When the chakras are balanced and strenghtened, they will be able to reach suprasensorial realities, and than the support for consciousness during sleep is created.

Why do we need special exercises to develop and open these spiritual eyes - because our daily activity constantly works in the opposite effect. We do destroy the delicate harmonies of these organs every time when we think something untrue, every time when we feel something unworthy, every time when we act as normal selfish self preserving human beings. It is normal, that in these conditions, the requirements for a sound spirtual practice seem so against human nature. But the truth is, that human nature is distorted. What we call normal, is not at all normal, but a sad state of decadence, and the more one realizes this, the less obstacles remain on the path towards the spirit.
