The more I think about wanting to show compassion and kindness toward a fellow teacher with whom I disagree, the more I think by doing that I am showing less compassion and kindness toward my student. Here in lies the dilemma. Must contemplate and meditate on this for a bit. Hum…
Just do your thing. Act your part. Don’t try to be better than you are. You are not. Bear the burden of your own character and knowledge. Teach as you think is right. Confront the other teacher. (this can be done peacefully if both of you are able to practice equanimity and detachment) Maybe you are right, maybe you are not. Without doing what I advise you will never know. Our choices are always like this, and often, the ability to chose one, even if it’s the worst choice as it turns out later, is valuable because takes one forward instead of leaving one in stagnation.
Thank you for your thoughts! I don’t think I’m trying to be better than I am. It’s more of an ethical/moral dilemma. At this time, my thoughts are doing nothing. With doing nothing, I feel I can move on and maintain peace. No stagnation!
Why not show compassion and kindness just to both?
Hubert, good to have you back!
have faith in the student
Brother Neil. I do and I shall let that guide me. Thanks you also Pandara and Hubert for your thoughts!
We don’t have a duty to the “other teacher” in the same way we have a duty to those who come to study with us. Compassion and kindness can take many forms but gets murky when it’s confused with being “nice” or “polite”, which are typically veneers stemming form conditioning.
