Alternate Nostril Breathing Imbalance

Hello, I’ve just started to practice Alternate Nostril Breathing and I noticed that my right side nostril is constantly blocked to a degree that I can’t breathe through it (both inhale and exhale) without creating any tension. I tried it at different time of the day and it’s more or less the same.

Does anyone know if this indicates some kind of imbalance in my mental state? How should I go about resolving it?

Thanks in advance.

Do you do jala neti before pranayama? It may solve the problem.

Have you tried padadirasana? That is, placing the left hand in the right arm-pit and just breathing normally for a couple of minutes. You can do this sitting or lying on the side.

It’s always best to look for physical causes before going off piste for mental causes.

Thanks a lot for your reply! I will certainly try out your suggestions.

This is nothing to do with mental state imbalance. Normally one nostril is narrow compared to the other. by Jala neti / Sutra neti plus pranayama practice you will see change in few weeks.

Identify food irritants/allergies with an elimination diet here are the most common:
1.) Wheat
2.) Dairy
3.) Eggs
4.) Soy
5.) Peanuts
6.) Seafood
7.) Tree Nuts

Experiment and develop skills in the following:
1.) Yoga Danda
2.) Jala Neti
3.) Sutra Neti
4.) Pranayama

Hot Green Tea/ginger/turmeric/local honey mixture

Perhaps try a few anti-inflammatory supplements:
1.) Quercetin
2.) Bromelain (subliminal)
3.) Fish Oil (no mercury)
4.) Niacin (regular not no flush or time release)

To rays supplement suggestion. My experience is that my nose was always blocked or more blocked than usual when taking supplements, now when i stopped all supplement my nose is better, much better , but thats just my story.

It’s all trial and error confirmation.

In fact, I found that the breathing pattern balanced itself out recently without me doing anything. So I guess it’s a very complex equation and hard to pinpoint one particular solution without lots of experiments and explorations. I would just stay curious and open, then see where it takes me.

Thanks everyone for your advice!
