Amazed at the process

When I first took yoga seriously, about 7 months ago, some of the poses looked to be too tough for me to ever do. A guy in my class told me that " it’s all a process ". I kind of chuckled at that and thought that I would do my best but some things I’d never do.
One thing was a headstand. Going upside down on my arms and head just looked crazy and scary.
But little by little things started to come in the headstand. Each small advance was like a victory. Now I am doing this all the time and each time I get upright I am still a bit amazed at the process.
Full wheel came also among other things.
Guys I am 63 years old and just learning this stuff. I am very thankful and blessed.
I’d love to hear any other “process” stories out there.

Wow!! Kudos…

Amazed at your process… at 63 it is remarkable…

I am practicing for a while and share the same feelings. I keep on going about my practice and then one day out of nowhere one pose becomes easier…

I still remember the first time I could do head stand. Yoga is not about mastering a pose, but the beautiful part is consistency and practice…

Perhaps it?s better to replace word/thoughts such as ?never/impossible? with ?challenging? that way the seeds of the mind do not create limits of the body.

I like that thought. The beautiful part is consistency and practice. Thank you.

Wonderful thought! I believe also that my self image is of a much younger age and therefore I do not limit myself as my years might dictate.
Still a kid at heart I guess.

From what I can tell my Studio is a good one. Usually the max is 15 people but most often 10-12.
I have 4 different teachers for Mon thru Thurs. Each one teaches a Vinyasa Flow class and each is different as by teacher and changes from week to week.

The instructors walk slowly into the class while we are posing and correct and instruct as they see fit. This for me has been quite helpful.

As this has been my only studio experience I have nothing to compare it to, but from comments I have seen on other posts I think I am very blessed.

Shumanfoo, I"m so happy for you. I think when we partake in yoga daily many amazing things happen. It becomes like a magnet, it can take us to places we never dreamed of. It fills emptiness and shines light into darkness.

I have been practicing for around seven months now. I learn something new each day. Things seem to be getting more clear if that makes sense. I feel taller plus my posture is so much better. I suffered back pain daily and hardly ever got a good nights sleep. I no longer have back pain. I’m grateful and will continue in this journey.

Like you I’ve been at this seriously for about 7 months. I practice usually 5-6 days a week.
By trade I am a shoe designer.Through my practice I feel my creativity has increased. One good benefit.
But really the discipline of all this has been my greatest benefit.

Namaste

So glad to hear that!

My process with hatha yoga was very difficult at first. I am 21 years old, college student, with a history of abuse and trauma in my life. Therefore, I was very disconnected from my body. When I first started the practice I could barely move. I felt ashamed and disappointed with my body, especially because in the beginning I compared myself to others. It took finding an amazing yoga teacher in college to develop the confidence and trust/faith in my body to progress (and learn to stop comparing!). Now, it has been nearly a year and a half that I have been practicing (three to four times a week) as well as reading about yoga and learning to meditate. It is one of the most transformative things in my life and it has inspired me to become a yoga teacher myself once I graduate!

Good for you SUPMJAY! The past is the past. Concentrate on the present and see where your practice will take you.

Very far I hope!
