Hi there,
It seems, the more I try and identify with higher realms of consciousness and ideals, the less I relate to people all around me.
Although the similarity is blinding, we seem to have little in common. 
Any wisdom to impart?

Look at yourself more closely, perhaps? More meditation. There are no higher realms: samsara = nirvana or, if you prefer, << After the Ecstacy the Laundry>>. Read up on the Ox and his Herdsman, ten zen pictures representing the spiritual path. At the end of the day, the herdsman returns to market, fully present in this world.
I’m gonna go cut myself a rather large slice of humble pie
