Another Hello from the UK

Hi I’ve just discovered this forum. Actually I was thinking what a good idea a forum like this would be and if no-one has already set it up I was ready to do it myself. Hah!

I’m a yoga therapist based in the UK. I trained at the SVYASA outside Bangalore, India and in London with the Yoga Biomedical Trust. I’m currently only teaching pre-natal yoga as I’m just getting back into it after having my son.

I specialised in yoga therapy for Asthma & IBS in the past but I’m passionate about yoga therapy in general.

I’m currently trying to tackle the medicalisation of pregnancy & childbirth through yoga  whilst practising the yoga of parenting on a daily basis

Welcome and it sounds absolutely fascinating what you attempt to do in terms of the medicalisation of preganacy and childbirth through yoga. If you don’t mind please share with us your insights at some stage. For some reason I draw a lot of pregnant ladies to my yoga classes and is always interested in more info and what I can offer them.

Hopefully I will get an opportunity to share my progress in my “battle” against medicalised birth. I haven’t found much on this forum so far relating to pregnancy and yoga.

Definitely it was an interesting and amazing experience going from practising yoga as a non-mother and practising and teaching throughout my pregnancy right up until the day before I gave birth. The changes in me, my practice and my teaching are profound and long-lasting.

Hello Wendy and welcome to the forum. I look forward to you sharing more on pregnancy and birth here as well. Please feel welcome add to any pervious threads on the forum that touch on these subjects–we would be glad to have your insight.

Do you know the work of Uma Dinsmore-Tuli? Uma teaches the British Wheel of Yoga Module in Pregnancy Yoga, designed the British Wheel Module in Postnatal Yoga and is a member of the British Wheel of Yoga’s Child Protection Steering Group. She has also written an amazing book called, Mother’s Breath. Like me, she is a student of Mukunda Stiles who wrote the forward for Mother’s Breath.

Again, welcome!

Hi Nichole

Yes I do know Uma - I trained with her when she was one of the Birthlight tutors (you must also know of Francoise Freedman I am guessing!) and I attended some of her own pregnancy yoga classes when I was pregnant with my son. I haven’t had the chance to read the full Mothers Breath yet but I have the prototype booklet (Perinatal Pranayama) she produced before publishing it

I have also met Mukunda when he used to come to the Yoga Therapy Centre in London (I doubt that he would remember me!) and of course I have his ?Structural Yoga Therapy? book!

My journey from practioner to teacher to pregnant teacher/practitioner to mother and now teaching again as a mother has been truly inspiring.

Looking forward to sharing what I have learned.

Wendy
