Another newcomer

Hello all,

My name is Jaanis and I’m a newcomer to this forum. The reason why I am here is simple - I want to ‘learn’ yoga, but I didn’t know where to start, so I’ll start here with this post and hopefully with your help and replies I will have the framework to achieve my goal.
Recently I started meditating again, but after few minutes I can feel the tension in the muscles and it turns into pain. So I thought that ‘yoga’ might be the right thing for me. Unfortunately I haven’t got the resources to go to a proper yoga class or hire a ‘professional’.
So please, fellow people, tell me am I in the right place and if so where should I start, maybe there are good books to read or good websites to research.

Thank you.

Hi Jaanis! Rodney Yee has a Yoga for Meditation dvd I’ve never tried it but Rodney’s other dvds are good. Otherwise, try your library for instruction books & dvds. Look for “introduction to yoga” type DVDs if you can, or beginner level. Best of Luck.

Welcome and I think this is a good place to learn about yoga. The book, Yoga The Spirit of moving Into Stillness by Erich Schiffmann has been helpful to me. You can search and find information on most any yoga topic here. I like the website, yoga journal.

I would try the Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga - Swami Vishnudevananda- Sivananda Ashram publication.
But would also say-joining a class is the safest way.

When a new Comer Join this Yoga forum don’t start to sale the Yoga DVD. “I want to ‘learn’ yoga” Just type these words in the Google (the God of internet) will surly get the answer.
