Aside from the many physical benefits I get from practicing yoga. Aside from the calming and focus I get to cope with NYC life.
There is this. I get to be around young people.
I’m over 60. But during my practice I feel about 20.
Part of the reason is the makeup of the classes I attend. Young girls and guys in their 20’s and 30’s. Before class I listen in on the chatter about this music or that event. During class I feel I keep up pretty well with most. And after class we all talk about the workout and ask the instructor questions.
It’s such a great feeling of community. At first I remember feeling like the old guy in the back of the class. But as I consistently showed up night after night things changed.
I must say that it is invigorating!
So much so that when I am around my non yoga peers I feel like the conversations are all in Slo Mo. The subject matter boring. And the outlook gloomy.
All that to say how blessed I sometimes feel.
Love your input, I can totally relate on that. The people you met in yoga are very extraordinary people and they’re a pretty solid support group.
I’ve gotten really good advice from very experienced practitioners on how to live healthy, I’ve been having really fruitful discussions of other things. When I talk to my friends who don’t do yoga, I sometimes think on how I used to be like them (exact same thing you mentioned on how the conversations were about), and feel thankful that I have started out yoga. They do see the changes in me, and I do let convince them to come with me sometime.
hello, shmanfoo!
that is very great to hear!
I haven’t had any consistent practice of any hatha or physical yoga yet, butIi do meditation alone when I have time.
I experience change and feeling more lively everytime I attend pranic healing session and twin hearts meditation. I don’t know if you have calling for such stuff, but I recommend you try, just for experience. But I know that you are already doing good with yoga.
I can also relate with whta sexy yogi says about getting good advice from tenured or experienced practitioners. Many in my Pranic Healing family are very insightful, some are even clairvoiyant, if you believe in such.
Again, it is very great to hear your story. It inspired me. Thank you for sharing it.
Namaste.
