Antidepressants and Yoga

The study of Pada II of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is deeply nourishing and supporting for any person who is wanting to work with the emotional, spiritual and psychological challenges that we all have in our lives. It is a step-by-step guide in relating to, and transforming with friendliness, your personal pain. In reading and contemplating these sutras, you will develop more compassionate for your own experience of pain, and for others in their experience of pain, which will benefit all sentient beings.

Mukunda Stiles reads and give insights on Pada II (path II, chapter 2) every morning of his Structural Yoga Therapy trainings, which is when the sutras really become a part of my own daily practice.

Reading the sutras, especially chapter 2, with a mind of svadyaya (self-study) makes it something that is truly available to practice in our own hearts and minds, making all things possible. It is not a down-the-road kind of practice, so if you feel you are a new student of yoga, please know that they are your own too.

. I think this is might be relevant to the threat. I was suffering from horrible panic attacks for my entire life…

"Thank you for sharing your story. Do not be scared to get another one attack. Unfortunately it probably will come back. But do not be scared. I might take years for it to come back. You have time to deal with it and meet it prepared.

My fears was vary scary, severe, some very vivid and sometimes quite delirious:) I would like to share those very interesting detail with you, but not going to describe them, since some people’s tricky mind can “copy” them just for fun:). But most of times: yes I felt like I was going nuts and that was scary. I wanted to run in all 4 direction from my fear if I could:) My head was about to blow like an atomic bomb from my thought.

It is interesting, but my doctor told me that 90% panic attacks are the same, despite we have different baggage in our heads. Most people experience racing thought and pressure in the chest. I went to the emergency one night because I thought something is going on with my heart and I was 100% sure that I’m going to die. They took x-ray, ultrasound , etc, and said that I’m im perfect shape! ( And bill me 8,000 afterwards!!) One time I run away from the airplane on the international flight because I was 200% sure that I will crash! You can see that those attacks also cost me a lot!

I started to feel much better when I realized that this panic is just bunch of chemicals that my own body makes (especially in woman). Our adrenal glands just spray “fear hormone” to the blood. I did not want some little stupid chemical (few molecules) to screw my life.

I do not like medications ( they make me sleepy, angry, apathyc, etc. ) and now my permanent cure for the attacks are:

 1. Yoga asanas normalize hormonal levels, and the glands do not throw that crazy adrenalin to my blood stream. Yoga diet helps to normalize hormonal levels too. (Take less sugar, less meat, less caffeine and some other things).

 2. In yoga philosophy caffeine is considered rajasic (passion food). I try not to take any caffeine at all, I have to give up even my green tea (if I do, I feel quite anxious in the evening)

 3. Yoga also makes emphasis on daily schedule. I try to go to sleep on time, every day the same time, even weekends. (Last year I went party in Europe in the club and ended up with panic )

 4. Yoga philosophy taught me to fear less, worry less, take everything as it is. I started to see everything that happens to me just as experience. Pleasant experience. Not very pleasant. Just and experience…

 5. MEDITATION and PRAYER is very important. Meditation will take your unnecessary thoughts away. You need to have few prayers that bring peace in you mind and repeat them every day. Most of times the prayer can prevent panic when you feel it is coming.

 6. THE MOST important one is that yoga teaches us listen to the body, discover our limits and our infinity. My experience was just my experience and during you journey into yoga you may find some different ways to deal with your own issues and fortunes!

Namaste,"
