Anuloma Viloma experience

Hi everyone : Please share your experience.

I started practising anuloma viloma pranayam ( ratio 1: 1) to 5 count 5 times.

What in your experience the following will bring

(a)

  1. Ratio 1:1
    2.Ratio 1:2
  2. inner retention
  3. outer retention

(b) is items 2,3,4 can be practiced without a teacher ?

© is it safe to practice this pranayama alone in certain days ?

Thanks

Yes. What in your experience the following ihhale/exhale ratio and rention brings ?

can some one answer my questions from their own experience ?

I was going to post before but i didnt , but i was going to write why dont you experience and see what happens for your self, as we all will have different experiences.?

Or are you just scared to do it without teacher- pointing to the other questions?

And did you just start pranayama and from where did you learn the basics?

Thank you for taking time out to write. Appreciated.

I didn’t learn from anyone but just started aluloma viloma based on the instruction given in the book "APMB’ by Swami Satyanda Saraswathi.

My question more out of curiosity what every one felt doing those different ratios/retention.

I have not read "APMB’ by Swami Satyanda Saraswathi.

I have read other books on pranayama which basically give general descriptions of types of pranayama. It was not until I read “Light on Pranayama” by guruji BKS Iyengar, which gives excellent guidelines on how to go about practice. It gave me confidence to practice at home. For each pranayama he separates into stages so student can progress to the next when mastered the earlier stages. I did a brief check, there are 9 stages in Viloma pranayama, and 16 stages in Anuloma pranayama.

The 2013 release has bigger fonts and clearer photos, the contents remains the same. You can read wonderful reviews in Amazon.com on the older version. http://www.amazon.com/Light-Pranayama-The-Yogic-Breathing/dp/0824506863/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367653717&sr=8-1&keywords=light+on+pranayama

Namaste!

We all have different experience i believe depending on where we are and if we have problems to start with.

If someone does not breath properly he will notice by breathing better he will tolerate stress better. One example.

Probably its described more thoroughly in some book about pranayama.

You may have a look to “Prana, Pranayama, Prana Vidya” of the same author. You will find a helpful nadi sodhana program, including ratios, times, etc.
