Breathe into lungs not to stomach because no organ in stomach absorbs oxygen.

Anuloma Viloma questions

  1. Can this pranayama be practised alone or only after doing some asanas ?
You can do it after asanas as well as anytime without asanas.

  2. What a beginner should be aware of ?
Do not stress your lungs there should never be any moment where you feel you must take an extra breath or breaths because you are out of air.

  3. is any other pranayam should precede or follow this ?
As a beginner this is enough. There are others that can be done but not as a beginner. You are fine of with this.

  4. should one be vegetarian to practise it ?
Anyone can practice this meateater also, there are no rules you need to be vegetarian.

  5. is this video is correct…should the breathing should be that fast like in the video ?

see answer 2. You will most likely stress your lungs if you do this fast. You can start slow and you will know your limit, dont stress your lungs you should never feel to need an extra breath or be exhausted pranayama should make you feel relaxed.

And previous poster say never go down your stomach and only fill your lungs.

You can now try to fill your lungs only for a minute, then still fill your lungs but think of the air going down at the stomach level and see what happens. The difference.

Thank you F.Yogi

  1. Either. However it is a calming pranayama and best not to aggitate or fire up the nervous system after. I would suggest doing it either alone or following your asana practice.

  2. Sitting erect with alignment and what that entails from the sitting bones to the crown of the head. The proper position and pressure of the finger on the outer nostril, the intention of the practice, when to stop, and all the elements of pranayama practice which lays the foundation for this; breath in the home of the breath, distance between the outer lungs and inner rib cage, position of the eyeballs et al.

  3. Over the life of one’s practice or just before? In the progression of one’s practice, yes; radiant breath and Ujjayi are best learned before but not required due to the gentility of the pranayama in question. Just before, no.

  4. No dietary requirements for pranayama. Good question.

  5. That is not the way I have been taught, nor the way I practice, nor the way I teach students Nadi Shodhana (anuloma viloma). So I can only say that what is there is appropriate for Baba Ramdev and those wishing to study with him.

Thank you Inner!

You are welcome, Lay.
