Apparel leads to yoga

I have been active in indoor rock climbing for the past 4 years and have never given yoga much thought. However, I would occasionally go to the Prana website to browse/buy climbing apparel. While there I started noticing their yoga line and also started reading more and more about yoga. This recently prompted me into an outdoor yoga class being held at a nearby wilderness park and I really enjoyed it.

I officially started yoga classes this week and I bought a Prana eco mat and mat bag to show my appreciation to Prana for introducing me to yoga.

Who knew a clothing line could lead one to yoga

How did you find yoga?

Sean

Sanchin,
Its funny you mention this because climbing is what first got me into yoga. I was having a hard time breaking into the 5.10s and needed the balance, and flexibility, and calm mind to do it so yoga seemed like a natural choice. My mom did it when I was a kid and she showed me a few poses which I always did since then (without realizing it was yoga). Fast forward 20 years and I became a climber who does yoga. Eventually, I became someone who does yoga and also climbs (just not as hard as I used to) - funny how these things turn out.

Oh yeah, and the Prana clothes for climbing all worked perfect for yoga too…and the Eco mat is my fave too!

Ciao,

Chris

Chris,

I really enjoy climbing (indoor) and I am sure the yoga will help my climbing as well

Thanks for your response. I am sure there are some climbers on this forums also

Sean

I LOVE to climb. Climbing has helped my yoga practice and yoga has helped my climbing practice.

Talk about a great way to increase finger and wrist strength!

Not only do I love Prana’s apparel, but I can relate to your experience with apparel in relation to yoga. Except for myself it was the other way around…

My yoga practice eventually inspired me to get back into my artwork. So much in fact that I now create yoga apparel designs and started my own yoga apparel business.
When I first began practicing Ashtanga yoga several years ago, I never expected to give me so much inspiration off the mat as it has on the mat.

How I found yoga… while shopping at a little Healing and Energy gift store in town. They had a variety of yoga DVDs to browse through and I came across one by Nicki Doane, who is a well known Ashtanga yoga teachers - one of the first females to be certified by Sri K. P himself. I was intrigued by the description of the practice, and being a marathoner at the time, attracted to it’s very physically demanding nature. I decided to give it ago and before I knew it I was “hooked”. I “thought” I was in great shape before I bought the DVD… then I tried the DVD for the first time… WOW. It was a challenge! Three years later I am still running, but my yoga practice has become equally important if not more important than the miles I run each week. I’ve never been in such great shape mentally, spiritually and physically. In addition to practicing Ashtanga a few times per week or so, I recently started practicing Duncun Wong’s Yogic Arts once per week. It’s such a unique and powerful practice and I really enjoy it.

This is nice to know. I am getting ready to start training for a 50k trail run that I am doing in April. I really feel yoga will help me in preparation for this run

I’m sure it will. My race times have not only improved since I’ve started my practice, but my recovery time has reduced as well.

Good luck in your upcoming event!

That is so funny - I’ve been trying to get one of my friends to join me in yoga for a while. But then she started climbing and wanted more flexibility - now she has joined! I’m so happy for everyone who discovers the great benefits of yoga!!

i started out about 4 years ago going on the internet and printing out poses and doing them.
really enjoyed it but life got in the way and i took a break ~ started back last august
and have lost 8 lbs and never felt better in body and mind.
yoga can be applied to everyday life not just when you are practicing and the result.
thats another reason i enjoy it ~ its the edge it gives you when thinking or when you run into a stressful situation and others are crumbling.

i found yoga through my friend. she was taking classes at 24 hr fitness and invited me along. i was always hesitant but tagged anyway. i loved it! I love the group x classes. such a variety and it really depends on the instructor, but i have a really good one. and i keep coming back! i’ve really stopped scrunching up my face when I’m mad. i’ve learned how to relax and calm my body and my mind. lovely.

I actually got started via bikram yoga, but I’m now practicing different methods of physical yoga which i actually prefer. I’ve got to thinking about yoga apparel though. Would you guys be interested in a monthly yoga gear subscription where you get yoga related apparel and accessories once a month for a like 20-30 bucks/month?? Would love to hear your thoughts
