Arthritic big toe

Mukunda,

I have a client who came to me seeking relief of foot pain. She has arthritis in her right big toe. Her circulation is very poor, her feet are often red/blue! Her big toe is red and so arthritic that she can’t bend it. I’ve never worked with a client with this level of arthritis.

I gave her very basic recommendations, including JFS/foot movements, practicing spreading her toes, vajrasana, tadasana. We didn’t even get in to ROM/MT this first session. Her balance is off due to her toe.

Outside of the arthritis diet, what might you recommend?

Thank you,
Beth

Once you do the diet, you will know how appropriate it is to give it. There is nothing to give unless you know it (the condition) from personal experience. So your suggestions are adequate for physical complaints. Though you might revist JFS and see if the toe motions can be isolated from ankles. That is moving toes alone then positioning ankle in various JFS motions and fixing that once again then moving toes in isolation in new posture. namaste mukunda
