Ashram in Rishikesh, India

Hi there,

I am looking for an ashram to practice yoga in Rishikesh. I practice a mix of hatha , iyengar and flow yoga in Australia. I am looking to get out of it strong yoga (asanas, cleansing, pranayama, Sanskrit, philosophy etc) and mediation experience but not so much on the hindu devotion side, if that makes sense. Not too ‘god’ like…

If anyone has some feedback on your experiences in Rishikesh it would be super appreciated.

The ones i have been recommended are Parmarth Niketan, which I have been reading in some previous posts is quite strong on devotion/Hinduism. So I’m not sure its my thing.

Also looking at Dayanda Ashrams, Iyengar 10 day course so if anyone can give me some feedback on that, it would be much appreciated.

Also if there is anyone others that someone has experienced, i would love to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet for a secular Yoga practice in Rishikesh is the Iyengar Instititute and Chetan Maharaj, who offer teacher training courses which are cerified by the Yoga Alliance, and have some of the best facilities in Rishikesh. There is also Tattva Yoga and Trika Yoga. Do a search on google to find out the location and web sites.

The Omkarananda Ashram also offer Iyengar-based Yoga classes.

Dayananda Ashram is not recommended from the point of view of Yoga. It is a Vedanta ashram primarily and very Hindu.

Cheers for your reply Surya Deva! I will check them out
