Attending Teacher Training with no intention of teaching?

Hi. New member, been lurking for awhile.

I’ve been considering attending a 1-month intensive teacher training in another country. I have no interest at all in teaching and would be going to it primarily to develop my own practice, to get away for awhile, shake things up and expose myself to a new experience.

I’m kind of hung up on the ‘teacher’ part. If this was a 1-month yoga intensive I think I’d be confidant in attending. But as I know I don’t want to teach, I feel it is in some way inappropriate for me to be attending a teacher training. I’ve only been practicing for two years now (4-7 days a week) and even if I did want to teach, I consider myself far too beginner to consider it.

Has anyone gone to a teacher training with a similar mindset (no interest in teaching)? If so, what was your experience like? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I actually doing teachers training course in Australia at moment - not my preferred style of yoga (ashtanga). Not solely doing it for teching, more for expanding my yoga knowledge. I find it extremely helpful for my own practise.
Just because its called teacher training doesnt mean we all have to be teachers at the end - i doing it to teach myself

It’s fine to go without a desire to teach. Enjoy yourself. If it’s a good training there will be more than enough to digest and so my only concern for you would be exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed. But these too are part of the process of Yoga:-)

I would highly recommend it! I did a one month intensive in August and it completely transformed my practice! You can always teach later on down the road, but I truly believe an effective teacher is one who is a student first. Enjoy!!!

Going through teacher training with the intention of deepening your home practice is all you need. Many that were in my class had no intention of teaching.

Go for it!

hmm…I’ve kicked this idea around for quite awhile! I’m now more inspired to find a ‘teacher training’ program - but like you, I have no desire or intention to teach - just learn more.

I’ve seen a lot of people who do it. I think it is great, since in the training you will learn that you will never learn in regular yoga class… and maybe you will be able to practice without going to classes at all…

I would highly recommend it!! I work and teach at a retreat center in Costa Rica and we offer yoga teacher trainings 5 times per year. Many of our students don’t wish to teach after their trainings, they are simply looking to expand their practice and take some time for themselves. The training are usually a very bonding experience between the students and can be very life-changing! Do it!!

There is nothing like attending a yoga teacher training course without an intention to teach yoga. It might be a lifetime experience. Just enjoy it.
