Aurobindo Ghosh on Psychical Phenomena

"…There is an action of the sense-mind which is superior to the particular action of the senses and is aware of things without imagining them in form of sights, sound, or contact. This is evident in psychical phenomena.
Having carrried out the study and experimentation of the sense-mind, we find that we can sense things known only to the minds of others, things that only at a great distance, things that belong to another plane than the terrestrial but have here their effects; we can both sense them in their images and also feel, as it were, all that they are without any definite image proper to the five senses.

This shows, in the 1st place, that sight and the other senses are not mere results of the development of our physical organs in the terrestrial evolution. Mind, subconsciousness in all Matter and evolving in Matter, has developed these physical organs in order to apply its inherent capacities of sight, hearing, etc. on the physical plane by physical means for physical life; but they are inherent capacities and not dependent on the circumstance of terrestrial evolution and they can be employed without the use of the physical eye, ear, skin, palate. Supposing that there are psychical senses which act through a psychical body, and we thus explain these psychical phenomena, still that action also is only an organisation of the inherent functioning of the essential sense, the Sanjnana, which in itself can operate without bodily organs. This essential sense is the original capacity of consciousness to feel in itself all that consciousness has formed and to feel it in all the essential properties and operations of that which has form, whether represented materially by the vibration of sound of images of light or any other physical symbol."
–Aurobindo Ghosh on Psychical Phenomena

I feel excited to the deep insight Sri Aurobindo presents here. Having met Shamans, i was reassured the presence of the spirit world. Here is my conclusion relating Shamanism to what Sri Aurobindo says…

“Certain animals can also be power spirits as any given consciousness has the ability to be activated by a liberated spirit. Hence the shamans regularly employ psychic animals and have animal spirit guides as strong allies or friends in the spirit dimension, and they work together or independently for healing or other purposes that impact any given reality at any given time.”

Finally my humble intent to convey a message that Yoga and meditation are powerful energy and reality activation tools. I suggest always going for knowledge and experience based on proven and ancient wisdom or Gurus, as there lie deep insights and secrets of true power which can be easily overlooked by a newbie teacher’s instructions.

I have his book, very old and authentic one… can not read it… to hard… one sentence is about 1 page…

yes the ideas require a long uninterrupted thought process just like meditation. maybe after meditation u can read it.
i found it easier to read while meditating and use it as a tool for meditation to infuse positivity.

for example… meditate for 15 minutes… read some of it… go back to meditation and so on

there also books which summarize and explain his writings…

Wonderful quote. I was not aware he was also called Ghosh. Maybe I need to read him again.

Ghosh is his last name…
