Avoid Yoga Alliance UK

I registered with this company having been impressed with their (written) code of conduct.
However, having dealt with them it is clear that they are a corporation that do not follow their code of conduct and are not compassionate.

Do not fall for the advertising of this company, and do not give them your cash.
If you are a qualified teacher it is not necessary to register with YA.

I made the mistake of registering with this group thinking them to be of good repute. However, there are no benefits to putting your name with this company, and they have treated me badly.

If you are already with them, or are going to join anyway, READ THE SMALL PRINT VERY CAREFULLY.

Don’t make the same mistake I unfortunately have done.

They actually discredit Yoga Alliance USA on their website, which is something no reputable school or Yoga group would do for whatever reason.

Philip,
I may help your cause to state your reasons for feeling this way.

Phillip are you talking about yoga aliiance in uk ?

Philip 1, looking at their site they look very professional, etc. Not thinking of joining them at this time but incase I do in the future or know others that do what was your experience with them and how did they treat you badly? Regarding ‘‘however, there are no benefits to putting your name with this company’’, may well be the case with this organisation but for others like them just the fact they advertise a lot or have list of registered Instructors on the site helps greatly with promotion/markting of yourself as a teacher.

Is Yoga Alliance UK in anyway connected to Yoga Alliance USA? As obviously the latter in U.S. is considered very good by many. Not certain on it but probably Yoga Alliance UK chose same name, as the latter was already established and well known. ''They actually discredit Yoga Alliance USA on their website ''not looked through all the UK site to see that part but will do so.

Are the Yoga Alliance UK founders very renowned in the Yoga field? Do they have a lot of Instructors registering with them? Many well known or renowned treachers registered with them? Would be interested to hear.

I like how the top of their page quotes “an organisation of exceptional standards” without attributing the quote to anyone in particular. I’m convinced!

Actually, it doesn’t seem to me that anyone considers Yoga Alliance to be “very good” at anything except marketing strategy. They have created this snowball effect where one teacher has paid annually to showcase the letters RYT, so the next teacher feels he/she must do so in order to appear as qualified. The first thing you notice on Yoga Alliance UK’s website is a big RYT stamp, representing their hopes to draw profits from branding teachers like cattle.

Trinley if you are refering to the U.S. based Yoga Alliance on the contrary many people do hold it in high regard, many people are even sceptical of any teacher not registered with them. Not my opinion but I know that to be true from speaking to many.

Regarding Yoga Alliance UK, I know little about them, first I actually heard of them was on this thread. So look forward to hearing more about them from people here.

I respect your opinion, but I must retort – I don’t think that those people believe Yoga Alliance itself to be anything great. It is only a registry. Again, it’s my convinction that people have just gotten used to expecting the letters RYT because so many people have jumped on the bandwagon already. People who have no other knowledge on which to base their assessments of yoga teachers may become skeptical of a teacher who lacks an acronym. That does not indicate high regard for Yoga Alliance as an organization. It only indicates our desire to brand ourselves to prove our worth.

In the same way, consider how two identical T-shirts can be made in the same factory in China. One gets branded with “Puma” and the other remains brandless. The first one will sell better even though the actual quality of the shirt is identical. Of course, all yoga teachers aren’t identical, but the reason the RYT may be more successful is because of marketing strategy. Now if you’re saying that people hold YA in high regard because they know it’s good marketing strategy, I wouldn’t disagree with you there.

If you mean otherwise, I’d be interested to know what exactly YA has done to receive this high regard, besides shilling acronyms.

I read their site and it looked pretty clean to me. A lot of extras and incentives.
What exactly was your ‘beef’? If you’ll excuse a little ahimsa joke.

I like these alliances. The U.S one does not offer a lot of bang for their buck but they set the bar pretty high as far as requirements for certification and registration. My school followed the program requirements very seriously and I registered and am proud that I did. I landed 3 jobs here with the strength of the alliance RYT status.

A lot of Canadian studios use the U.S one over the Canadian version which used to be preachy vegetarian only and now seems to have fill in your own standards like the back of a matchbook university.
