Last autumn I started a Kundalini yoga classes. It was quite different from hathayoga I done before. Dynamic, sportlike practise that made me sweat and feel like outlaw of yoga. Breath of fire, very powerful.
Results come fast, in about two weeks. I felt more energetic than maybe newer before. I had difficulties to get sleep at night yet I woke up much before alarm, and the first thing in my mind was to make some exercise.
I didnt grave any special food anymore, and had no difficulties to go vegetarian. After work I wasnt tired and
after exercises I sometimes wanted to go out cycling some 10 km in black and cold night. I enjoyed that feeling of energy, and felt it also spiritually. Discovering old habits and ways of thinking was more clear.
All this lasted about 6 weeks. Then one morning I woke up and felt normally tired and instead of jumpin up for exercises slept couple more hours.
After that I still felt very good, but was more back to normal again. Some weeks vent ok, but during this year 2012 I been sick 4 times and seem to have very poor resistance.
Can anybody figure out what went wrong?
I don’t know much about the efficacy of Kundalini Yoga. I have done it myself, but I ended up feeling lightheaded, hyperventilating and nauseous, so it is not something I wanted to continue. Furthermore, the classes and retreats are very expensive and there is a lot of hokeyness.
I think the exercises are very energizing, but because they are NOT done responsibly and in a controlled manner they can produce burn out very quickly.
I see a few things that could be happening.
First of all having to do with the physical practice, there’s a mundane principle that could be at work here, that your body has simply gotten used to the practice so you’re not getting the same benefit that you did when you first started. The antidote is to change the physical practice, try something new. True kundalini yoga is a sitting practice with various forms of pranayama and visualizations, so your physical practice shouldn’t matter that much.
Second, I think there could be the possibility of a placebo effect. You tried something new with the kundalini practice and it worked for you because you wanted it to work. If that is the case then you need to somehow try to generate the same kind of energy, anticipation, and enthusiasm that you had when you first started your kundalini practice.
Third, on the one hand you said that you had no trouble going vegetarian, but on the other hand you said that you have been sick four times this year. Are you sure that you’re getting all of the nutrients that you need?
I think it’s normal to have ups and downs in your practice. Being steady and consistent can be one of the hardest things to achieve.
I want to correct something I said earlier, because the asanas can be integral to a kundalini practice, in the sense that they are designed to produce a certain effect. You might want to talk to your teacher about changing your routine a bit.
Thanks for replys Surya Deva and Asuri
First I must say that I trust my teacher fully, but some kind of burn out feeling I got. This overenergetic state was also bit confuseing, like small car with huge engine on it. The balance was missing. So it was also relief to get back to normal. Ideal state would be to get all that energy on mental level.
Nutrition is one thing I also got to focus better.
I had difficulties to get sleep at night yet
Sounds like overloading of your Pingala nadi.

OK, so it seems you’ve decided that the highly energetic state is too difficult for you to maintain, so maybe you need to change your practice to something that is more sustainable for you.
