Just realized that I have been practicing bad form on my most basic foundation posture ‘downward dog’. I was wondering where the lower back pain was coming from. Argh! Now i’ve got a long ways to go all over again, trying to retrain that bad form and hopefully regain the curve in my lower back. I was training with the arch of my back being my 90 degree angle rather than my butt! Have just been practicing for a few minutes and can already feel a difference. I should get myself into an iyengar class! PPL, FORM IS VERY IMPORTANT!. I’m feeling i have to start all over again in a sense!
Alignment is very important. Actually, every pose requires very little muscles if it has proper alignment.
Form is very important! That’s why it’s good to go to lead classes/ mysore classes once in a while to check in on your form with an experienced teacher.
Hi beachyogi,
check out this incredible DVD-set:
http://www.yogajournal.com/shop/live_yoga_dvds/13
Worth every penny, Iyengar lectures about many basic Asanas truly in-depth, as I haven't seen it on any other DVD (and I have seen many).
Edit: That includes the downward facing dog too, he speaks about it at least 15 minutes, along with demonstrations. Very very valuable.
Thank you for that link. I will really consider that
