No reason why not. Just make sure you are fasting for at least 3-4 hours before practice. Ideally before dinner in that case.
No food till Half an hour after practice.
Include ten min meditation after practice.
I will usually take dinner by 7.30 PM. So , can I do Yoga by 10.00 PM ?
Can I do any asanas or is there any specific asanas to do @ night ? Please suggest …
You would want your evening practice to be calming. Some will say Surya Namaskar is fine before bed, and while I don’t agree, the choice is yours. Some suggestions from my practice and what I teach:
Lovely sequence for an evening practice:
Wind relieving pose
Supta Padangusthasana
Supta Padmasana (reclined ankle over knee, knees into chest)
Sukhasana with forward fold
Simple twist in Sukhasana
Sukhasana with right hand down to your side and lean deeply to right. Come into a
twist to left. Lean over left thigh with arms reaching out to side. Then to right with
arms out to side. Repeat other side. This is good to release tension in back.
Cat/Cow
Adho Mukha Svanasana
Crescent Lunge
Lunge
Adho Mukha Svanasana
repeat other side
Uttanasana
Ardha Chandrasana both sides
Uttanasana
Right foot back to lunge
Adho Mukha Svansana
Balasana
Adho Mukha Svanasana
Eka Pada Rajakapotanasana - right
Adho Mukha Svanasana
Eka Pada Rajakapotanasan - left
Adho Mukha Svanasana
Childs pose
Vajrasana with fingers interlaced behind back. Lift arms.
Gomukhasana - just the bottom part of the pose
Baddha Konasana
Baddha Konasana with forward bend
Salabhasana
Dhanurasana
Balasana
Simple reclined twist
Supta Baddha Konasana
These are all suggestions. If you need clarification either post or send a PM.
The goal of an evening practice is to unwind and calm. Practice the above sequence with gentleness and ease.
Thank you so much for such detailed information !!
I have a slightly different take on yoga. If you are simply asking about practicing the postures (asana) which make up perhaps 1/1000 of the practice my reply might be different.
Before practice I suggest two things; having a clearly refined intention for your practice, and spending a few minutes moving your mind into the breath into the body (oft called “coming into the present” or “being in the moment”, or “now”).
After practice I suggest some time set aside to feel - feel the residue of the practice you’ve just done. Note the effects of your choices. Cultivate your discernment through that feeling.
Dear rameshiit19,
welcome to the forum!
There are some good advises above!
From my side I can say that consistency and learning more is the key. I would set 10, 15, 60, or few hours for yoga everyday. I mean practice asanas, pranayamas, meditation of just do the research…
Good luck on your yoga path!
"I will usually take dinner by 7.30 PM. So , can I do Yoga by 10.00 PM ? "
No where it says no but 5am-7am and 5pm-7pm is the best recommended time.
Do not practise Dhanurasana etc during the evening as it will disturb your sleep.
hmmm its quite good
The VERY BEST thing you can do to get started with yoga is to GO TO A CLASS!!!!
Make sure you find a well qualified teacher.
If you start doing asana and pranayama without a teacher how will you know if you are doing it correctly?..you could hurt yourself.
Good Luck
Thank you so much for everyone for your valuable suggestions !
I have STARTED going to a YOGA CLASS from last week .
Thanks ,
Ramesh
