Be Ready for Cold Season

Does anybody know what types of foods/spices/herbs are helpful to eat in the winter for warming the body? I normally cook with all Indian spices but I figure that India is a hot climate, where as I am in Canada, so during the winter I should try to eat foods that are traditional for colder climates. I know that onions and garlic work very well but I want to avoid garlic and try to limit onions because I know they are not considered satvic or recommended for Yoga.
Any suggestions?

yogatatryit, you have no idea how jealous you just made me. both 50 and 70 sound great right about now

I’m in NY and it’s going to be 30 tonight.

And I am so ready for Cold season that I caught one already

As far as I know (and I’m from Russia, hehe), good foods for cold season are :

potatoes,
nuts,
meat and animal fat(unless you are veg)
cinamon
dog rose tea
and the best thing I’ve ever tried for warmth and energy is - salty pork fat.

ooo Yogatryit, I’m flying to Orlando for two weeks this weekend! Please tell me it’s warm weather lol! We are packing shorts! I live in Alaska, and it’s 22*F today. We’ve already had a decent amount of snow.
I think we’d better pack some jackets from the sound of it!

As for cold season, I have some thoughts about it - the virus season seems to hit during seasonal changes - do you all think that the change in weather and air pressure and humidity etc. can possibly bring stress on the body as it begins to adjust, thus reducing the effectiveness of the immune system, and that’s why everyone seems to get sick around that time? And if one is fighting a virus, then getting chilled can give it the foothold it needs I would think. I know that getting chilled does not cause one to become sick.
FYI, I don’t get sick often, and when I do it’s usually mild compared to everyone else around me. I eat way too much sugar, drink coffee, and don’t eat enough fruits and veggies, and my job has had me sedentary for the past year, and I’m trying SO hard to motivate to do yoga at LEAST 1 hr a week, planning to work up to 2hrs, then 3. I do drink a lot of water… and I take my vitamin D - sporadically lol.

I really can’t explain it, I used to get as sick as everyone else around me, but the past 10 yrs or so I’ve been great. Maybe the yoga (asanas) I did in the past boosted my immune system and kept it strong, even after I stopped my practice! I really have no idea.

But I agree, wear a scarf/muffler when you go out to keep that neck warm, wear gloves, and wash your hands! And eat what you know your body wants. And I mean healthy foods!

good for you:)
I used to get cold just from opening the refrigerator;)

Thanks for the tips CityMonk…
