I practiced Bikram yoga at least 3 to 4 times a week from 2008 until 2010. I never felt better in my whole life during this time. Since 2010 up until today I got married, changed jobs, moved, had a baby and stopped going to Bikram.
July 4th of this year I ran in a 5k race and ended up pulling out my back. About 3 weeks later I was lifting a power washer into my car and I felt something snap in my back. My back got worse over the next week or so. At one point my disk ruptured and I was in sever pain for about 48 hours and all I could do was lay on the floor and take pain killers. I had an MRI and it turns out the disc that ruptured was the same disc that ruptured 10 years ago. I had the surgery the next week, which was the second microdiscectomy for me. I had degenerative disc disease with a slight curvature of my spine.
It has been about 7 weeks since my surgery. I have nerve damage in my left leg which and my left foot has a drop to it when I walk. I am doing physical therapy which is helping. Its very slow going and as luck happens a Bikram studio just opened up near my house. I am looking forward to going back as soon as I get cleared from my doctor.
The question I have to this board is has anyone else had personal experience with a microdiscectomy and their yoga practice?
Thanks
