Biomechanics Hip issue

My hips have been driven into horrible form with years of improper running form. My knees and IT bands have also suffered because of it. Warrior 2 has given me a few problems because I believe my hips have come to far forward (as least this is what a gentleman in ART has been telling me). Bone is meeting bone and my trochanters are also very tight a lot of the time. Is there anyway I can incorporate some exercises that might get my femur head to move back? I understand this is a very technical problem I’m trying to address on a forum but if any of you have any leads, I’d really appreciate it!

Is it possible you can share your MRI scanned copy of both image and report.

I haven’t gotten an MRI yet, I’m in the military and I’ve been moving around a lot so it’s hard to develop a long term solution. Ive been talking about getting the MRI done on my knee…I’ve never heard of it done on the hip? I’ve gotten an x-ray done from a chiropractor and both physical therapy and ART people don’t really use that. Unfortunately I’ve been on the move so I’m on my own right now. My regular basic vinyasa flow has not been helping.

Hi Tom,

What you’re broaching is a therapeutic issue. Therapeutic issues are addressed (in Yoga) by thorough assessment and a complete protocol for the individual based on that assessment. Of course some people “believe” that anything labeled yoga is “helpful” and anyone called a “yoga teacher” has the skill set to apply therapeutic protocols. Neither are true.

Bone-on-bone means the connective tissue usually buffering that space has eroded or is otherwise missing. Since this is a pretty serious issue the response has to be equally serious - a concept I know you understand from your tour.

There are things to do (aside from the western medical model of drugs and surgery) but it’s involved and takes time, teaching, and oversight. It would be best to find a qualified teacher.

Thanks for the replies. I know it will take a qualified teacher to get this under control it’s just so hard to find and have them for a consistent amount of time. I’ve modified my running form (running on the toes compared to heel striking) and it seems to be helping. I’ll take it easy on it until I’m in a place I can find some reliable information and have some consistent assessments.

Tom you have to have complete diagnosis done first to understand root cause and damage if any on the bones or joints. MRI will give in depth knowledge . I will suggest talk to doctor, get MRI done and then reach out to people. All the best.

Tom B,

The problem you have mentioned sounds complex. Sometime and very often MRI might or might not show whats the root cause is.
It is hard to give any advise online, even skype is not much help here.

If you want to solve the issue “the yoga way” i would recommend master some relaxation and visualization techniques it will help to recover when you find out what is going on on the physical plain…

I got help from Iyengar trained teachers few times when doctor told me that I’m done. So, I swear by Iyengar therapeutic method for muscular-skeletal problems. Iyengar teachers forego years and years of training and sometimes know more than doctors

As soon as I run into a train Iyengar student I’ll be sure to ask for some alignment help! I also believe this would work, I just have to find the teacher!

Thanks though, I’ve been working on some relaxation techniques, what do you mean by visualization?

I would imagine it would be visualising the path of healing.
