Bladder problems

Hi All,

I’m pretty much brand new to yoga, having followed a few youtube videos for beginners and practiced lots of stretching on my own.

FYI, I am 28/M and I have an overactive bladder. Its uncertain whats been causing this but my consultant doesn’t believe its prostate related. Its not an infection and cystoscopy has revealed the bladder looks fine. I take medication but my symptoms come and go from day to day.

I strongly suspect the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles are playing some part in this as I know I have unbalanced hip flexors and tend to lower back ache and ache in my left glutes running down to my groin. When I try lunges, my left hip flexor is much tighter as is my piriformis on the same side. I also have restricted inner rotation capability of the left leg compared with the right.

I’ve been told Yoga could be helpful, and that back bends in particular are great for the bladder. I’ve already found that diaphragmatic deep breathing/relaxation helps as does breathing deeply and into the diaphragm the rest of the time.

Can anyone recommend a sequence? I am looking at joining a class.

do some research on mulha bundha and get familiar with it. when u go to a yoga class some teaches may mention it, some may not. regardless, practice it in all classes and out of class also. ask teacher for more info or guidance about it - they will know what you are talking about.

also worth looking at pilates, feldenkrais for the hips and pelvis and tai chi. they will all help.
