Broken arm

what poses would you reccomend for a person recovering from a broken arm?
This person is also a cyclist and is looking to rebuild her strength.

Greetings.

More information would be needed to reply properly to your question.

When was the fracture sustained? Where was it fractured? What bone? Has it been cast? Is it still casted?

The person in question… old, young, heavy, thin, healthy, ill…

More please.

Hi Inner Athlete thank you for responding.
My cousin is a young healthy female who broke her arm while cycling. ( She was hit by a car) Luckily the only thing affected was her wrist. I think the meta tarsals are affected. She has asked me to help her find a few yoga poses to help regain strenth in her wrist. Her wrist is in a cast. She is thin and very active. I do not think she can bear weight on it at the moment.

Strength in yoga is built after alignment. Alignment is the setting of the bones (in this case) and casting of the limb. Therefore no doing until the cast is off. No strengthening until the bones have set and calcified over the fracture.

Note that the body does its best healing in a parasympathetic mode which in this case means your friend should be resting, not doing.

I realize as an active young person who is potentially Type A this would be difficult. And that IS the yoga for this person. Yoga is an awareness of your being at this moment and an integrity around that awareness. When the body is recovering it needs to be recovering, not working out. I’t s fracture not a hangnail and should be treated accordingly, in a yoga context of course.

So I would recommend gentle Pranayama and daily Savasana for your friend, though I don’t think that will go over too well with her.

Thank you kindly!
