Broken Tailbone....ouch

Hello,

I broke my coccyx last week in three places in an unfortunate rollerblading incident with my kids, involving me losing balance and falling flat on my butt.

I have been practicising yoga for over 5 years now and enjoy a power practice during the day with yin at night before bed. But since the incident, my practice has had to be hugely modified.

I absolutely cannot do navasana or anything where the pivot point would be my coccyx.

Everything else is ok, some niggling pains here and there but nothing major.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some yoga asana that could help alleviate the coccyx pain which is really affecting my sleep?

Its a really annoying area that is hard to access for healing and restoration, i am a little frustrated. I have a lot of anti inflammatory medication that I can take, but I am reluctant about putting all of these toxins into my body when I feel there may be an alternative.

Woudl be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks,

Sophie

Hello as anti inflammatory you could get curcumin i find meriva the best version of it.

Ive read about cissus quadrangularis but never tested it, you could get it at ebay pretty cheap from thailand. They have gelatine capsules though so if your a vegetarian you can open it and pour it in a glass. May you be healed soon.

Wikipedia.
Cissus quadrangularis has been used as a medicinal plant since antiquity. In siddha medicine it is considered a tonic and analgesic, and is believed to help heal broken bones, thus its name asthisamharaka (that which prevents the destruction of bones). It is said to have antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anthelmintic, antihemorrhoidal and analgesic activities.[1] It has been found to contain a rich source of carotenoids, triterpenoids and ascorbic acid.[2] Its bactericidal effects on Helicobacter pylori hold promise as a potential treatment of gastric ulcers in conjunction with NSAID therapy.[3] A weight loss supplement containing Cissus quadrangularis and other ingredients including green tea, soy, selenium, chromium, and B vitamins was evaluated in an 8-week trial. The supplement helped reduce body weight by 4-8% ( placebo 2.4%) a clinically significant weight loss.[4]

I’d have to know more about the fractures. “Broken” doesn’t really tell me enough for a therapeutic answer.

Anti-inflamatories don’t particularly assist fracture repair though they can aid that which has inflamed around the bone and that is, of course, important.

You may PM me if you want to discuss it further.
