Bruised backside

I severely bruised my right buttock while skiing. I know that I will not be able to do my regular practice for around a week or so. I would appreciate any suggestions on a modified practice in the meantime (my upper body is totally sound) and suggestions for healing that part of my body.

My wish in hindsight is that I decided to go skiing instead of to my favorite yoga class of the week. I wish I had made the decision to do yoga instead.

Thanks much!

Hello Fern,

If it is only a glute muscle (there are three I am aware of) that has sustained bruising then the modification to the current practice would depend on what you could and could not do without pain.

Bruising itself can be addressed, in part, by warm epson salt baths, the application of maha vishgarbha oil (or organic untoasted sesame seed oil) twice per day, appropriate rest, and dietary focus on hydration, oxygenation, and alkalinity.

As we move more toward a state of full responsibility for our living (as those on the path of yoga do) our choices become more mindful. That is NOT to say we always choose best. It is just to say we are aware when we are choosing and not doing so from rote habit. So the choice to go skiing was a marvelous one, despite the outcome, if it was made mindfully.

Gordon,

Thank you for your reply and your suggestions for therapy. I have been slowly returning to my regular practice. I find that my groin muscles are tight. I can walk slowly with a normal stride if I concentrate, but when I try to walk briskly or if I am not mindful, I walk with a limp. The tight groin muscles are not causing me any pain, I just find that my range of motion is reduced somewhat.

Do you have any specific advice for gently bringing back full movement to the groin area?

Once again, thank you for your kind reply.

Kenny
