Buenas tardes from Sacramento

Hello everyone,

I just found these boards. I have practicing yoga for about 5 years now and am signed up to do a 40 hr intensive practice/teacher training in May. I am really looking forward to it.

I have a question about teacher training. Do you guys feel it is important to get the 200 or 500 hour Yoga Alliance approved courses? I interested in mainly teaching for the sake of teaching here locally.

If you have any thoughts about this I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you search this Forum for the words teacher training, you will get some wonderful results in addition to what others might offer in this thread as well.

My question always: How on earth can the quality of the information and experience of a 200 or 500 hr course compare with that of a 40hr course?

I call it the pregnant woman principal: One woman makes one baby in nine months, two women can’t make the same baby in half the time. The same with training, something will be lost or be neglected in a short training compared to a longer training.

I didn’t mean to infer the training was the same or even close to the same. I will most likely do a longer more extensive course in the future, it’s just that right now I am not able to take a week or longer off from my job and family to do so.

My question is more looking to hear about people’s experiences with the different length training offerings.

Hi,

I understand, then if you want to do a shorter course in addition to a more comprehensive course, by all means do it and enjoy it.

My own training stretched over two years part time. I enjoyed the interaction with the other treainees and we conducted regular workshops and retreats which was extremely intensive. It was two years of intense personal and spiritual growth beyond expectation for myself and I will always recommend a longer course if possible. The value of such intensive training is starting to bear its fruit now that I teach my own classes.
