Hi, I was doing an elbow balancing pose and suddenly had to stop because I felt, as best I can describe it, like a muscle balled up under my breastbone in the center of my chest. I was able to rub it and it “disappeared.” Has this ever happened to anyone else? I’m hoping it’s not a hiatal hernia.
I’m not familiar with the “breastbone”, Renie.
Perhaps you could give us a better idea of the location and nature of the pain.
Perhaps this will help.

I couldn’t find the right spot on the diagram – it is between but slightly below the breasts – probably near the esophagus.
Keep in mind that I am not a physician and my feedback should not be confused with a medical consultation.
That having been said I’d guess you pulled or strained the intercostal muscles between your ribs.
Thanks for the input–I appreciate it - sometimes you get more help when you find someone else who has experienced it than if you go to a doctor!
Indeed. I was merely tossing in the perfunctory disclaimer.
Western medicine has a role but there’s some dispute as to what that role should be:-)
I tend to tell students to “pursue the health care practitioner of their choice”. In that way I am supporting them without advocating a particular belief system.
