Can someone explain the John Friend situation?

I have not been able to find too many details online.

John Friend and the Anusara Yoga scandal: A primer

This is the anusara tradition right? John Friend learns everything from BKS Iyengar and breaks apart from him. Now his student does the same.

I just found out about this today. It makes me sad. I was trained to teach Anusara, and I love it, but never got certified. Interesting that I have been teaching the yamas to my students this past month. Guess that goes to show that I should regularly reflect on the yamas and what they mean in the big picture.

Just asanas is lopsided; support it with pranayama, yama and niyama.

Just asanas makes Yoga look easy that it is not.

Yoga is a demanding path; difficult to walk the talk.

go to Elephant Journal and YogaDork and you’ll be able to read all about it.

Blind leading the blind.

I know many beautiful yogis who fulfilled his rigorous training requirements so they could don his brand, logo and title. They are amidst chaos, and this is my message to them. If you know an anusara instructor that is still dealing with feelings of betrayal, please pass on this loving message…

WOW…I like anusara and do not see it as all about asana. the 3 a’s, IBB inner body bright etc. its good teaching and this scandal does not change my opinion of the system or a great teacher i know.

Its a sad story though…stealing disciples pensions:o
He did usually look a little too happy…brought a lot of light to the world but was secretly using the dark side of the force.

He’s human. We place ideals upon that which does not fail us. Do not place ideals upon humans.

The efficacy of our practice is palpable in our living.

I had the same reaction but view it as a judgmental one.

I’ve been thinking about the difference between ‘judgement’ and ‘discernment’ lately. I think there is much to be learned from this situation.

Judgement generally accompanies an opinion based in the context of like or dislike.
Discernment is rooted less in preference and more in what simply is or is not.

View it as you see fit.

It is applied equally to all, across the board, ergo it is an inherent truth, though even those come in layers.

Attempting to view with clarity, an unimpeded attunement towards reality.
