Can we Control Our Emotions With Yoga! and which pose is suitable and which time evening or early in morning
Chris4leyene,
There is not such a magic bullet type of solution in Yoga which will work instantly. However, Swara Parivartana (changing flow of air from currently dominent nostrill to another) and deliberate distraction from the state of emotion and situation triggering the same, work to great extent.
Regular practice of pranayamas (breathing exercises) and laghu dhyanas (short meditatioins), in my observation, have shown better results over regular practice of asanas. In pranayamas, Anulom-vilom or Nari-shodhan pranayama (Alternate Breathing) for 5 minutes and; a form of short meditation based on common mantra like SO-HUM" or equalized breathing, etc. for 5 minutes are beneficial. I believe that 10 minutes sadhana daily, twice a day, 10 times a week, for 6 weeks will not only bring control on emotions at subjective level but also can be traced at objective level.
The best time to practise the above recommended Yoga methods is ofcourse morning and evening on empty stomach. However, you can do the same, a matter of good choice and relating Yoga practice with meal time), either 30 minutes after taking a liquid (not liquor) or 1 and 1/2 hour to 2 hour after taking a breakfast or refreshment or 3 to 4 hours after taking a major meal like lunch.
The only people with moderate degree to severe degree of neutoticism, emotionality and psychoticism will have difficulty controlling their emotions with Yoga.
It is true that modest degree of to severe have easier to benefit. But it depends on the indications of that person. there could be cases of severe where it would help a lot BUT some cases maybe is to severe so it is of no use and yoga could make it even worse. Depends on what kind of problem to start with.
In general it is as said but we cant generalize anything could happen in yoga.
But it takes time to deprogram your habits and thoughts. But it is possible to change little by little and people will notice the change. But for this to happen we must do meditation consistent every day.
the ultimate goal of yoga is to stop the uncontrolled thinking process… so yes, one can control emotion if he can conquer the mind…through regular yoga practice of asana, pranayama, meditation and other techniques
