After my first yoga class a few weeks ago, I knew in my heart that this practice would help my mom a tremendous amount. However, she is 84 years old with a very sharp and strong mind but her body has taken a turn for the worse in the last few years. As such, she’s basically confined to a chair. I asked my yoga teacher what she suggests, and she said there’s actually chair yoga! Hahah, this yoga stuff is so amazing to me. Anyway, as my mom is a senior, are there any DVDs or books or advice out there when it comes to chair yoga for seniors who can’t get out of the chair? Thank you so much.
http://www.yogainchairs.com/ I’ve never tried her stuff, but worth the visit. Also, if there is a silver sneakers program in the area, all of their yoga aka silver stretch is taught from chairs.
Lilias Folan (by most, considered the Mother of Modern Yoga) has an excellent series A.M./P.M. Silver Edition. She herself is now beyond 74 years of age and modifies most of her poses. She has also written a book that goes into a bit more detail with modifications, etc. Name is “Yoga Gets Better With Age”. She is an awesome woman with a gentle way.
How very sweet of you to be doing this for your mother! Good luck to you both!
