Chakki Chalasana - Foot Movement?

Hello, I have a question about Chakki Chalasana (turning the wheel or something like that, churning the mill maybe).

When I lean back my feet (well my entire legs really) move back an inch or two, and when I lean forward my feet go forward an inch or two.

Is this an indication that I’m doing the asana incorrectly? Or is that normal?

Thanks
Child of the Tao

Hello child,

I don’t do this exercise, but I think I think I can help you. Are you are sitting on top of the gluteus maximus (buttock) muscles? My guess is that’s making you float.

Try this: before you begin, pull each buttock out from under your sits bones, so those bones are down on the floor. That will keep you from sliding around.

Let me know how it turns out.

Yes that’s it exactly, I’m rolling around on my glutes. I have this problem a lot, during shroni chakra (hip rotations) as the muscle moves under the bone it makes a loud sort of clicking sound.

But I don’t understand what you mean, I can’t get the muscle out from under my sit bones, I’ve just had a go at it. Do I manually move the muscles out of the way with my hands or is just a matter of how you sit?

When I’m leaning back fully in Chakki Chalasana all my weight goes down to the floor through my coccyx. Is that right?

Doing this asana slowly pulls my trousers down

APMB has no instructions re moving the glutes out of the way so don’t worry about the legs. Keeping the arms straight and not allowing the lower back to sag when you lean backwards are more important.

I find myself parting company with my trousers when I do Chakki Chalanasana quickly!!

Child,

That’s right. Just pull them out and sit that bone down on the floor: first one and then the other. If they creep back under you, it because you are tightening them.
