Chest Imbalance

Hi There

May I thank you for providing such a comprehensive information resource on yoga.

I am completely new to yoga, I have a physical problem I was wondering if you could help me with it.

Basically, one side of my body is bigger and stronger than the other - the problem is more pronounced in the upper body - the left pec muscles and arm is more muscular and contains more fat than the right.

I have been attempting to rectify this by doing weight training on the right hand side and using inversion therapy, with an inversion table - this is basically a device that allows you to hang upside down by your ankles.

The reason I have been inverting is that I heard that this therapy can help balance the body’s weight distribution.

I was wondering if you could recommend any yoga excercises to help me with this problem, baring in mind that I am completely new to yoga and totally inexperienced.

Any advice you could give me will be greatly appreciated,
Many Thanks

I am wondering whether or not you have been screened for scoliosis. The situation you describe can be partially attributed to a left thoracic curvature of the spinal column. So i would recommend you see someone about that in addition to doing what you are doing. Sounds to me that you are doing good with what you are up to. In addition i would recommend Ashtanga or Power Yoga classes for you provided you are healthy and strong. Try a beginner class and see if you are up for it. While receiving a personalized yoga routine is best, this recommendation will definitely build upper body power and balacne overtime. namaste mukunda

Many thanks for your advice, Mukunda.
Best Wishes to you.
