When someone is lying in savasana and one leg is more externally rotated than the other, does this mean: tighter external hip rotators and weaker adductors? Would we typically choose the concept of strengthening the adductors (primary); and then stretching the rotators (secondary)?
Lying is a test of the long anterior hip rotators - sartorius for external rotation and tensor fascia lata for internation. We need to establish what is normal rotation before saying one is rotated more externally since it could be that the other is rotated internally. This position does not evaluate the adductors only rotators. For clarity go and Review the SYT examination manual. This is the first of three tests to check ROM of hip rotators. all 3 tests tell something different. all together give the most information about the hip rotators. namaste mukunda
