I’ve recently read that coconut water, due to it’s high electrolyte content is supposed to be a great drink for hydration esp. after hot yoga?
Anyone here who can vouch for that or is this another Madonna-inspired gimmick?

I’ve read that coconut milk is as close as any natural thing to mother’s milk formulaically. I eat a little bit of the pure virgin coconut oil everyday. There’s lots of internet info on it and an old farmer I met swears by it . So I guess it has a wide range of endorsements from that old farmer ( always had dirt on his hands ) and madonna.
I drank it nearly everyday growing up in Trinidad. I crave it now all the time.

This water contains a lot of potassium and other elements. Potassium prevents from cramps. Cramps occur when dehydrated… makes sencce. The best coconut used to be “ZICO” but I prefer to get hole coconut from market

Trust me. Much better to visit.
In my northern woods there arent any coconuts even at the health stores but a year ago I bought 10 of the white coconuts at a whole foods market when I visited Minneapolis for about 3 dollars a piece. The white (whitish-tan) coconuts have much more drinkable milk than the dark brown coconuts. I haven’t seen any green coconuts up here.
I’ve read that the coconut water was used as an IV during one of the World Wars when plasma was gone.
The whitish beige colored coconuts that I had were much easier to open than the brown ones also, and were mostly liquid without much white meat.
This is making me thirsty, Gil.
Electrolyte solutions need mainly sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Coconut water has potassium, calcium and magnesium, all in good amounts. Potassium is great. It helps muscles to function correctly, thereby helping to prevent cramps (which Magnesium also does), but most importantly, it ensures the the heart keeps beating in it’s perfect rhythm.
Sodium and chloride are missing from coconut water, but most people in western countries get an over-abundance of sodium and chloride through standard diet. The minimum recommended varies between 500 and 1500 milligrams, and the average person gets between 2500 and 4000. You likely aren’t low, but if you think you might be, try licking some salt off of your hand to see if you feel better. A lot of people say that when their salt levels are low, salt will taste ok, when otherwise it makes them gag. Cool? Definitely.
Note - all of these minerals need to maintain a delicate balance in the body for optimum functioning, and if even one is lacking then you will not feel as refreshed as you could. I don’t know what the optimum levels for each mineral are, but I do know that the balance between sodium, chloride and potassium is very important. A tip? if you try coconut water and are left unsatisfied, don’t give up right away. Try either A: another coconut, or B: Eating something salty. If none of these options work for you, then at least you can carve out the coconut sludge from the inside and eat it with your hands.
I just finished six months in tropical heat, and I never drink enough waterr. Coconut water always makes me feel like the healthiest person on the planet in these situations! I even think better when I drink it.
PS - If you’re buying cans, assess for added sugar.
Most canned foods contain Bisphenol A.
You don’t want Bisphenol A. Really.
Young Thai coconut is the way to go, both for the water and for the meat inside (you can eat it with a spoon). I buy it them by the case, they’re cheaper that way esp if you eat at least 5/week.
