Creating a home yoga room

Good Evening,

We have two beautiful babies arriving in October. It means two things, my practice will now be at home and the “best” room in the house for yoga has been converted to a nursery.

I’ve been relegated to the basement. Our basement is “finished”, has neutral tile floors and white walls. It doesn’t get great natural light. It’s not ideal but my options are limited. I’m not a decorator by any means so would love your input and suggestions.
Thanks!

In addition I tend to enjoy all forms of my practice hot, so any ideas on space heaters would be great.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha…
only two things?

I have an 8 year old. I have a sacred space in my home for my practice. Know how many times I have been tackled while in headstand?

I no longer practice at home, but I do various poses that need work. I find that 5 minutes without an interruption is a blessing.

One reccomendation. Make it yours.

Two babies ! Nice…

Personally, I do not have any room available just for Yoga. I practise usually in the living room. On the other hand, I enjoy practising with our 3-month old bundle of joy. I even often want him to be in the same room for the ambiance. We will see in a few months when he is moving more. He observes me, listens to the sounds, chanting, breathing, it is nice. It does not disturb me. But with two babies, it is a greater challenge… best wishes.

Wonderful news. Obviously the yoga of the moment is to assist the mother in remaining calm and relaxed and filled with joy. That doesn’t require a room nor heat.

As for the space, I think it’s a purely personal thing. The practice itself should not depend on climate, though clearly it could be more challenging to practice when shivering. As long as you can be comfortable then the space is well suited. Keep it clean and free of toxins. I prefer a simple space though I am aware others like adornment. However adornment itself is not a facilitator of the practice. It is merely a pacifier of raga.

put in some wood or bamboo flooring and make the color of the room inviting maybe hang some colorful cloth on the walls to make it feel comfortable
