Deep Beats & Yoga!

Hello! Greetings to all…

This is our first time posting here and just wanted to introduce ourselves. We go by Mental Physix (Crisanto & Dru), we are two multi-talented artists from Southern California. We DJ yoga classes and believe that music can help you go deeper into your practice by eliminating more “mind” & generating more “feeling”. Our mission is to bring more depth to a class by DJing live along with the instructor and adding a third element of energy to the session. If you would like to check out some of our mixes, you can by searching for Mental Physix on SoundCloud (unfortunately we can’t post a link here since this is our first time posting).

We look forward to meeting new people here and building with the overall community… Namaste!

Great idea…I love music for yoga. One of our regular visiting teachers here plays the harmonium in class and I have been in vinyasa classes with DJs and live music also.
If you are ever in Cambodia you are very welcome to come along to the new studio where I teach with my partner. phnompenhyoga(at)gmail.com.

Good luck.

Without no mind there is no feeling. Beginners like Music as it makes their mind concentrate on the music instead and they will not feel their tired body as much and it will feel easier. Music can help in the beginning but if one wants to make progress and really feel connected it should be done without music. So for a yoga studio that wants to have returning customers it will work just fine as most people have a fluctuating mind that needs stimuli and variation so if one does not meet this most probably they will not have a good experience and search for another studio. Everything needs a balance.

yogacambodia - Sounds great! If we make it out there, we will definitely look you up!!

fakeyogis - Sorry to have confused you. We are not saying to eliminate ALL mind! =)
Just more of the mind that isn’t necessary: the babble, chatter, thoughts that can interrupt being in the now of your practice, etc… and we have used music (by producing more feeling) to help achieve that balance. Since we are DJ’s, we mainly deal with classes that already involve music, so the odds of us playing for someone that doesn’t believe music is needed in their practice is going to be pretty rare anyway. The great thing about Yoga is that there is so much variety…to each his own! =)

A big shout out to everyone that enjoys a nice deep set of music to go along with their practice! To those that don’t, we still love you anyway!! =)

I know hou didnt say eliminate butt less mind less feeling and with music you feel your tired body less. But i know what you mean as beginners like music it makes them feel relaxed also hectic businesspeople can relax more when there is music or otherwise their problems comes up.

Love it! Down here in Melbourne Australia, my wife and I have been running a class with a similar idea - we call it Vinyasa Playlist. We play anything from world music to light dubstep. I would post a link to our site, but I am too new to the site - google “Garden of Yoga Melbourne” if you are interested!

Hey Physix,

I am listening to your mixes now, and will probably try them out in practice. Good vibes, and i’m sure another level live. ‘Cosmal’ spun at the catskill chill festival yoga class this year and it was a new and enjoyable experience.
