Deep hip opener question (hip flexor scar tissue)

Hi, everyone

I am an infrequent poster to this forum but thought it a good place to turn for advice and wisdom for returning from a hip injury. I practice a fairly vigorous vinyasa flow and tomorrow will be my first class back after a two-week layoff due to minor injuries to my hip/lumbar area that I suffered while running.

I’ve been in physical therapy for 2 weeks and it turns out that the injuries were caused by the muscle imbalance of my glute not firing on my left side (always my weak side). The injuries are largely better and I’ve been given the greeen light to return to practicing, but with the warning that I shouldn’t go too deep into any major hip openers and/or do anything that might stress my hip flexor too much. I am still feeling a lot of soreness/tenderness there, largely (my PT says) from scar tissue where i suffered a very small tear about a year ago.

I’ll also talk to my instructor about this before class, but I thought I’d ask here also - what postures should I approach with particular caution, and are there any that would be particularly beneficial for these issues? I just don’t want to fall into the trap of being hot/sweaty, thinking muscles are more open than they really are, and going too deep.

Thanks so much in advance for any help anyone can provide. I cannot wait to get back on my mat! Namaste

If you continue vinyasa i believe you will have more injuries, stability and alignment comes from static poses. Not from flowing poses.

What you need to do is to strengthen your weak side first. Then if you want to continue vinyasa there will be no problem. But for you prio number 1 is stability which is hard to get from fast pace.
Dont they have other classes you can join?
