Dehydrated disk in lower back

I have recently had some problems with my lower back…I have a dehydrated disk anyway and was in an accident in January 04 that laid me up for a month. In february 04 I got bucked off of a horse and that put me on the couch for an entire week…
My options now are do nothing for the rest of my life and get fat (which for me is not an option), go to a chiropractor for???, or yoga. What style of yoga if any will help in my situation? I heard of one lady who had the similar problem and avoided surgery because of yoga…please let me know if you have any suggestions…

One of the most common problems with aging is that we are dehydrated this is especially important to avoid for disc health. Drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day (by water i mean nothing but). It will take about 2 months to fully hydrate and then the challenge is to keep it up make it a regular routine. There is not astyle of yoga that is helpful for this condition but rather a focus on toning of the lower back and hip muscles. Any teacher who is thoroughly versed in anatomy and preferaably also knows kinesiology (what msucles are used in what poses) will be of great help to you. You can get the basics from my book STructural Yoga Therapy and if needed share it with a yoga teacher. Focus on toning the erectors spinae, latissimus dorsi, gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, and hamstrings. then you will be great. namaste Mukunda
