Do yoga teachers need website

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum. I am a new Yoga teacher and I teach only few yoga classes a week and intend to become a full time yoga instructor in future. I will also start offering private yoga lessons soon.

A friend of mine suggested that I should have a website if I like to promote myself as a yoga teacher. Do I really need a website? I am not very good at computers.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Om Shanti

You only “need” what you need. If YOU don’t need one then don’t have one.
There’s no requisite for having a website. However it is a bona fide marketing channel and I presume you are interested in marketing yourself.

Pragmatically speaking, each yoga teacher runs their own business. So it’s up to each person how they choose to let potential learners know they are available to teach.

Namaste Tina,

Determine your feeding area where you teach or want to teach. Then see what marketing tools are available in that area, for example booklets that may be delivered at homes with businesses advertsing in them or business directories. Word of mouth is another marketing tools which you shouldn’t under estimate.

Personally I think having a website has much to do with your own goals for your yoga, if you want to make money and a living out of it, then perhaps you might need it, if not, then I think it might be a different story.

Hi Tina,

I assume you want to make a living by teaching yoga by saying that you intend to become a “full time yoga instructor” in future.

It is true that it totally depends on needs but if your question is “how to maximize the growth of the yoga business” then you need a website for sure.

The time has changed. For years, consumers relied on the yellow pages to find local businesses. These days people search things online on search engines like Google and receives back a list of companies offering services based on the search string. For example, You will like your website to appear in search results when someone might search on Google Private Yoga Lessons in “Your Locality” In today’s world, not having a website is like not being listed in the telephone book. A website provides added visibility and credibility among consumers.

Though you need to sit back and think what exactly you are looking for. If you are taking Yoga as a business then you need to market it as any other business and website is a essential marketing tool.

Suggestion: Go online and search on your favorite search engine how to promote small business or how to promote yoga business.

Thank you for everyone’s response!

I’m so exciting that I’m going to have a website soon!!! I found a web designer who is ready to trade in for few private yoga lessons. He also suggested having a blog.

Om Shanti

Congratulations Tina!

Your next step might be promoting yourself as a yoga teacher and marketing your website. You will need to make your website visible on search engines. Visit this link http://www.yogiwebdesigns.com/blog/free-marketing-tips-for-yoga-teachers-yoga-business/ to learn few tips on internet marketing.

Good luck!

A good website will pay for itself a thousand times over. If you think you may need a website in the future, get it now. I say this because Google will become your best friend and send you students for free if you do things right. Google ranks your site in its search engine results via an algorithm. And one of the most important variables in that algorithm is time. Get your site established and live, even if it is just a placeholder site so that time variable can start ticking.
