Do you supplement your yoga with other forms of exercise?
Do you supplement your yoga with other forms of exercise?
Assuming you mean the amputation of the yoga asana from the eight limbed scientific system of yoga as a form of calisthenics; are there other beneficial and functional forms of physical training; yes. Pull-ups, sensible running have also proved functional in the physical world we live, possibly since our ancestors utilized similar for survival? Although I meditate on the porch running with the big dogs, less the ego, has established positive bonding benefits.

Weight lifting, fast trail hiking in wooded hills, swimming, yardwork (old-fashioned human powered push mower), and some treadmill and cycling.

I am trying to lose a lot of weight so I have to supplement. I am currently doing step-aerobics, kickboxing, treadmill walking/jogging, dancing workouts etc… Just tons of cardio.

In a little bit I would like to add kettlebell training to my routine as well.

I was only doing yoga once a week while doing the P90X workout program–but I would love to do it 3-4 times a week now.

I try to run as well. I used to have a pretty steady running schedule and enjoy it alot but I stopped for a while picked up yoga in that period of time. Lately I have been trying to throw some running back in the mix but the problem is I find that when I go to yoga the day of or day after running my legs are weaker and I have a harder time staying in certain poses. Yoga has become so important to me so I find myself running less because of that reason and not wanting to miss yoga because of running.

Treadmill, cardio work out, and yoga. Doing a mixture of things just to keep active while enjoying the benefits of yoga. Iv spent too much of my youth being lazy.

Years ago, I took a course with a real Rishi. He urged us to practise sports to stay fit.

You should have seen us in a big yard playing soccer with the Rishi, monumentally dressed in a white robe.

Gym 3 - 4 days per week, skiing, biking, keeping up with kids (14, 12, 7).

Actually I always use Yoga as a supplement to Martial Arts

kettlebells & walking

Mostly my time is consumed with yoga. But I do augment with some specific exercise routines for my shoulder and back. Shoulder is strengthening with weights and back is core work. I also walk.

Kettlebells, TRX, running and cycling.

Physically demanding stuff I do: dance (Bollywood, Tribal Style Bellydance, some Oriental Cabaret, random studies in other fusion dance styles and Kathak) and walking.

I don’t do any of these, or asanas, just for the exercise. But my “interests” are however supporting each other in many ways, and one of these happens to be maintaining and improving physical fitness.

Biking and once a week chi gong.

I walk, beach walking mostly. And mostly for fun.

Push ups, pull ups, squats (with a living weight), riding the bike, to gain a little strength and lose some weight, the damn belly is in the way in a couple of poses. I am too probably going to get me one or two kettlebells soon, I keep hearing only good things about them.
