I’m off to drink some warm water and roll out the mat now! cheers
Hurrrah!
I put water by my bed last night - but forgot completely about it in the morning. I’ll try again tonight!
I also did 2 hours of yoga upon arising yesterday. 1 hr of mostly restorative yoga, then 1 hr of kundalini yoga to stimulate the glands. It was heaven! I still feel great from it the next day!
Alas, I awoke a little late and ended up mopping up water from a displaced drain hose on the washing machine, so didn’t have any time to do yoga this morning. I’m telling myself I WILL do it tonight after work. Heaven help me, I will!
It truly is hard to get motivated and build a routine, and yes, you just have to DO it.
The tip about the water is interesting. I never thought about it. I drink water first thing in the a.m. - not by choice - but because I have to take thyroid medication with a full glass of water in the a.m.
Original Poster - how is the early morning yoga practice going?
Another trick to motivate in the morning. Connect with the breath and tell yourself ‘ahimsa’ (non violence) then let the asanas be really gentle and let the breath actually hold your hand. It’s amazing how the body can actually begin to feel really nice with even very gentle (ahimsa) asanas as long as the breath is doing it’s thing! It’s like you begin to feel that yawny stretch more often, the nice yawny stretch…sun salute c eight pointed bows…an hour and half later…corpse…“gee I am finished!”
When it comes to post morning breakfast, I am into OJ or fruit juice with some spirulina etc superfood mix mixed in, and some vanilla yogurt, or huervos ransheros, whatever motivates and makes stomach happy! (raspberry juice) cup of tea
It’s all perspective you may find that being responsible to others will be the incentive you need to motivate yourself.
Get yourself a paper route. I’m not kidding. You’ll have to get up. You have a job!
The early morning fresh air will wake you up and you’ll have couple of extra bucks in your pocket and you’ll be finished well before the sun comes up for the traditional salutations.
Very soon your circadian rhythms will adapt to the new demands on the system and wham your a daisy or lotus or lily or what have you.

pgames,
There are certain times during the day when the mind is vulnerable to absorbing suggestions. Two of these times in particular are just before you go to sleep and just a few minutes after you awaken. These are times when the conscious mind tends to be a bit more flexible, less rigid. Before you go to sleep, try repeating again and again in the mind, with a certain emotion and conviction, that you will perform the yoga sadhana in the morning. While you are doing this - try to visualize yourself performing the sadhana, with minutest detail. Continue repeating the affirmations as though they were mantras. Do this for a few minutes. If your attention is absorbed enough in the process, it will function like a kind of hypnosis, and you will awaken certain forces in your unconscious which will be supportive for manifesting your desire. Our programming is very rigid and stubborn, but one’s mind is as a piece of clay. If you know how to do it, you can mold it into any shape or form that you want. Our system by nature is highly adaptive, it has to be. Because otherwise, survival for man would have been impossible. But one is unaware as to how to trigger certain changes within oneself consciously. One of the methods is through a certain hypnosis. Just practice the technique as an experiment, and see whatever may happen.
Start with meditation instead.
