Dr Paul Bragg Fasting - a miracle or coincidence?

Have anyone heard of Dr. Paul Bragg (he is not actually a doctor).?

I read his book long time ago and did fasting and cleaning by his system. It includes few days no-food and few days no-water, and other things

The results were fantastic! Totally rejuvenated body and clarity in the mind.

Later I’ve leaned that he was not a doctor, but just a marketing person and charlatan.

Since it worked for me last time I want to do it again.

I’m just wondering if his system really works or it was just a happy coincidence for me.

I’d say any fast will HELP purge the system.

I fasted for 15 days just to see what it would do.

but

Sustained practice of the limbs will do the same job better and you get to eat. Which is nice.

So I don’t fast no mo.

maybe a useful technique for certain individuals… Those opposed or unknowing of the yoga techniques.

Gimmicks. Gimmicks. Marketing speak. I find it all so boring. But its what sells…

Having been down that road a time or two I don’t currently do, believe in , or advocate that sort of cleansing as it can be pretty harsh on the body systems (while the intention is well meaning). There are certain times where there are radical issues in the body and that might warrant radical responses however that’s on a case-by-case basis (not generally).

The body, by design, is self-celansing. However that requires two specific behaviors from us; the proper combination of whole foods and personal responsibility for our lives. For example, a person that chooses immobility and blames it on something else (like not having enough time) that person may develop difficulty with the innate processing of toxins. The lymphatic system relies on movement as it does not have its own pump and so a sedentary life can inhibit that system’s function.

Since we often choose instant gratification - a fast meal, fast pain relief, fast resolution to our deepest problems, fast opening of our hamstrings - it is challenging then to make change and address that which we are putting into our system, that which we are breathing, that which we are drinking. So instead we don’t make change there. No. Instead we continue tossing garbage in and resorting to fasts in order to placate our self-guilt and indulgences. This shared from my personal experiences, those of my teachers, and the observation of my students.

Instead I prefer taking in those things which deeply nourish the systems which handle cleansing rather than taking in something that cleanses. One is regeneration and the other is substitution.

Fasting is a great way of periodically purging your systems of toxins. Ayurveda recommend to do panchakarma therapy about once a year to purge your system of toxins. It will purge toxins from your lungs and airways, stomach digestive tract, intestines, skin and blood. This should not be done too often because it will compromise your bodies natural systems.

I think this is profoundly good advice. It would be nice if you could elaborate a little regarding what kinds of things nourish the systems that handle cleansing.

@Asuri

I am using great care in any elaborations here for reasons not germane to this post.
I get very fatigued by argument and resistance and the board then becomes an energetic drain which takes me away from more fruitful pursuits.
But I will sit with what you ask, consider it, and weigh the possible fallout to see if it is something I am willing to bear.

cleansing and nourishing? yesterday i woke up with morning breath and ate some pineapple, it cleansed the mouth and being a whole food I would imagine it nourished the body. Papaya is supposed to be good for digestion lettuce is supposed to be good for adding chlorophyll to help oxygenate the blood etc…The better I eat and the more active I am the more consistent and smoother digestion seems to be.

Absolutely…our systems and tissues rejuvenate every second! thats why i’m so suspicious to cleansing procedures.

Fasting make sense though… it was (and it is now) quite normal for many people on the earth. …

I’ve done all procedures from hatha yoga pradipika. It seems very unnatural, though…

What toxins we are talking about here? Our body exert toxins every day:) hence purification occurs every second with each breath.

I know that panchakarma works great… but also I know that I said above:)

The toxins(ama) are lodged in different channels(srotas ) in your body such as your digestive tract, intestines, airways and they are produced by improper food combinations and improperly digested food and they accumulate and clogg up your channels. The panchakarma theraphy is designed to purge your body of these toxins:

You are not suppose to do this too regularly, because as I said it compromises your natural systems. However, doing it at least once a year is a must to get rid of the accumulation of toxins. We all have toxins in our system from indigested food clogged up in our colon to mucus clogged up in our airways.

do you do any preparation before that? like few days of fasting before the cleaning? I remember that I fasted first, then clean the liver and the gull bladder, then entire digestive, and then the rest including prana channels

I’m just wondering if the powerful enzimes of the body can not get rid of those buil ups, how can just a regular water get them?

I have done a couple of vision quests with the natives here in Canada. This entails 3 days in the woods by oneself with no food or water. We begin and end with a sweat lodge, and close with a light breakfast. I feel such clarity after these vision quests. The natives have practiced this for many centuries.

But, doing this too often - like anything - can be destructive to the body.

while i am in “Fasting” I can do kriya yoga or not? please suggest me by giving correct answer.
