Hi,
do you drink during yoga classes? I know that it differs from teacher to teacher and tradition if it is favoured or not but I would be interested in the pros and cons.
Thanx!

Hope you are talking about water.
Sorry, I do not really get it. Water or drinking per se is not unconscious is it?
Generally I drink when I’m thirsty. I have popped out of class to drink but generally I try not to. Rather I prefer to stay hydrated before and remain focused on my practice.
True. I mean many times drinking word is used for “liquor” as well so I was not sure.
Well, body has three types of pressure inside. hydraulic (liquid) , pneumatic (gas) and semiliquid.
Liquid pressure is the most powerful pressure. It can even damage organs or can put extra pressure on the other parts. Reason for giving importance to inhale and exhale in Yoga while asana is based on keeping these factors into consideration so that no damage happens.
Little water should be okay but we can anyway avoid it in one hour practice. You can drink little water few minutes before practice though.
It is the hot season here so if clients are sweating and becoming thirsty then they drink water during class. We do encourage our clients to hydrate before and after class as well as through out the day. Still trying to get coconut man to pass the studio just as class finishes…he would be on to a winner…somehow he always just mistimes it…a fresh coconut after class is great.
I am confused, SohamYogaStudio, did you change your first post? Of course I talk about water, did you think I want to have booze during yoga class?
But thanks for all your imput, I think trying to drink before and then focus is the best option! I just did not understand why some yoga teachers are so strict about no-water-policy during class, as in the case of dehydration not to drink seems not very healthy.

In the “normal” world this is true. In the yoga world a reference to drinking should not be a reference to alcohol. While there are certainly some merits, alcohol is a medicinal and therefore consumed only based on circumstances and not with regularity (for a yogi). It is also a hindrance to authentic feeling, something a yogi is trying to enhance not obstruct.
yoga world?
Yes Dave. You know, down in Florida with the big Ashram when you walk in, the high fees for entry, and the long lines for the rides.
I’m going to Fla for a training, but not at Yoga World. I avoid yoga world, too many yogi’s telling me how to live.
I can’t get through a class without water! I sweat a LOT, and I like it when teachers give a quick break between sequences for a drink.
